"Bon Cop, Bad Cop" was fun to watch. It carried a typical story, but it was played out so well that it didn't matter. In my opinion, it succeeded quite well in bringing in the typical "cliché" traits that are given to Ontarians and Quebeckers. The fact that the film was bilingual was something new and something exciting, and the subtitles didn't affect the movie at all, it even made it better. The cast was very convincing and very real. Patrick Huard succeeded in portraying his role as a light-hearted Quebecker and helped take the stress off of some events with his good sense of humor. Louis-José Houde played a small role but couldn't keep the audience from laughing. This movie is definitely a must-see, especially if you're a fan of Patrick Huard or Louis-José Houde!

This film proves one thing only: that Canadians are equally as capable of making hackneyed, clichéd "buddy cop" movies as Hollywood is. And indeed "Bon Cop, Bad Cop" faithfully churns out every single "buddy cop" cliché one can think of. If there were a "Mad Lib" template of "plug in the cliché" for cop movies, the result would be this film. For that reason, I was bored, I checked my watch, I rolled my eyes more times than I can count. I think the "finale" alone garnered double-digit eye rolls. I give the film 3 stars because the lighting is great and the cinematography is competent and there is no question that the crew did a very good job constructing a professional looking film. I would only ask, if "Rush Hour 2" looks professional, does that make it a good movie? If you've seen "48 Hours," "Lethal Weapon," "Bad Boys," or any of the other endless trite by-the- numbers rehashes of the formula, then you've already seen "Bon Cop, Bad Cop." Unless you're interested in Canada's opinion of hockey in America, there's nothing to see here.

The dialog struck me as a deficiency in this film early on. The script needed to be rewritten. Some of the acting by the supporting cast was outright terrible. The sister and the head bad guy could barely read their lines. Someone else mentioned clichés. Of these, there were many. The story line seemed a bit disjointed and I was never really given a reason to be drawn into it, either. Perhaps because I am not a hockey fan...? I honestly did try. The compulsion to turn it off came many times, but I stuck with it. I searched for good elements. One I thought of was: At least I didn't pay for it. Okay, what's good? Well, the cinematography wasn't bad at all and bordered on quite good. The banter between the two cops was entertaining at times and there are sections of dialog that rose above the trite garbage that surrounded it. This movie has a rating of 7.3 right now and I fail to see how this is possible. Do people not see good films ever? Are there that many Canadian hockey fans out there? My guess is that the Canadians have stacked the voting. I cannot give this film more than a four of ten. Someone cut off the Internet to Canada. ;~P

There's a character in this flick called Mr.Buttman, and it's not even a joke. With the exception of the two leads the rest of the movie is though. Every cliché is in there from the Chief cop who screams until his eyes are bulging at the 'whacky' antics of his charges to the convenient "I used to be in the bomb squad" BS at the end. The bad guy is the worst actor you'll ever see (apart from in the cast of Fear Of Clowns, obviously), the movie is overlong and the constant switching between languages is just plain stupid. This might be a good movie by Canadian standards but that's like saying 'Bomb The Bass' were a good band by Swedish standards. I think we will see more of the leads but my advice is to wait until then. This really isn't worth the time invested in watching, never mind shooting this stinkeroo. 2/10

everyone was saying this is the best quebec film ever made. not one person that i met...was disappointed with bon cop. well... i was. rented it on Christmas eve when i was alone with a guy who i invite every year cause he is on the street...and alone. we settled down to watch this mastwerpiece. first of all weve seen these action movies for years and years. all the scenes seemed to take place in the trunk of cars. every car wreck and explosions fell just in right place. the acting was i guess good but not astonishing. god i was anxious to see it end...looked over to the guy in the street and he said...well they are trying their best. in case you are wondering we were both sober..maybe should have looked at it drunk. sorry .

OK, this is a comedy/thriller. The comedy consists entirely of Quebec/Ontario stereotype jokes. Some of them are quite funny to be sure, but after about 15 minutes it's definitely enough. The thriller aspect is all cliché: serial killer, kidnapped pretty girl, ticking time bomb with digital timer, killer playing cat-and-mouse games with the cops... all this could have worked, in the hands of a talented screenwriter and director - not to mention editor: there are long segments where nothing happens and the story (such as it is) is left hanging. But alas, there is not much originality here and the effort falls flat. My recommendation: go see C.R.A.Z.Y. instead - now there's a great Quebec movie!

When the body of the executive of hockey Benoir Brisset is found on the billboard of the border of Quebec and Ontario, the jurisdiction of the crime is shared between the two police forces and detectives David Bouchard (Patrick Huard) from Montreal and Martin Ward (Colm Feore) from Toronto are assigned to work together. With totally different styles, attitudes and languages, the reckless David and the ethical Martin join force to disclose the identity of the Tattoo Killer, a deranged serial-killer that is killing managers of hockey. "Bon Cop Bad Cop" is a sort of parody to "Lethal Weapon", exploring the rivalry in Canada between Quebec and Ontario and the passion of Canadians for hockey. The film is a hilarious police story, using the common clichés of two different cops that become partners but in very funny situations. In the deleted scenes there is one particular showing the two families together that should have been used in the final edition. I liked this film a lot, but I believe it is funnier for Canadians and fans of hockey. My vote is seven. Title (Brazil): "Bon Cop Bad Cop"

This movie tries to use the gimmick of Canada's French/English rivalry as a launching point for some sick humor in the approximate vein of say, the Police Academy series. The effort though is much rougher and repulsive and relies on vulgarity and graphic violence for it's juice. Why do we care about these ridiculous, stupid characters? They are so unreal and unattractive. We learn the worst words to swear with in both languages over and over again. Ha ha. The characters continually engage in obscene violence and the ongoing gag is how the French police detective uses the method of transporting arrested suspects by stuffing them into the trunk of the official police car (or their own car). Lots of blood, mutilations, crashes and explosions. What a waste of talent all around.
