I wish this movie was about Bobby Kennedy. It certainly ends up with some excellent speeches by him. In fact, the majesty of Bobby's vision at the end of the movie overpowers the all of the previous parts of the movie. Instead the movie is about the people at the hotel on the day he died. And then it drops their stories cold once Kennedy is shot. It is not a good story, political commentary or documentary. Despite an excellent cast, it is weak as water. Emilio won't find himself producing another movie soon. More text required. More text added here.

I'm rather appalled that this has gotten even one good rating on this website--read the reviews from people who know. There's a reason this film was universally panned. The script is vapid--I knew when I heard the first of many anachronisms (body double? in 1968??) that this wasn't a film worth watching. It felt like a first draft that Estevez tried to pawn off on us. What's worse, it was a real tragic event, and here it is totally exploited to make room for a "drama" that is lousy with cliché. One of the worst films of the year. Ashton Kutcher as a drug dealer? Demi Moore as a chanteuse? It's laughable. What other flubs can I recount here? Oh Yes: "Shelf life," a term from the late 1990s. Oh god there are so many. And all these tangential dramas, and nothing about Sirhan B Sirhan? it makes no sense. It's almost offensive that Estevez would use this occasion to make his first film, only to employ his friends, and not have anything to say, and not put his script through a second draft.

What a horribly, disappointing little mess this was. I sat through 45 mins. of it and was tired of the mindless drivel...esp. the nail painting scene. I was so thoroughly, sickened; I walked out. I was expecting a little hard-hitting historical insight, instead....FLUFF. I am thankful that I had not spent money to see this rag(thankfully, I had a pass)...I am not even thinking I will check it out on DVD. The only thing I was left wondering was...did the busboy get to see Drysdale pitch???????? I certainly believed there would be something to catch my attention early...way too much silliness. I am not sure of the relevance of some of the superficial character development.

Tip: never watch a sneak preview in a blockbuster movie theater. My God, this was one of those very disturbing experiences one now and then has to have to appreciate all things beautiful. Worst movie I have seen since Pearl Harbor. Although some months have passed between me and this monster, I am still impressed by the scam they put on me. From the first minute on, this movie indulges in the most unreflective Americana crap. The scenes, jokes and motives are so predictable that I felt ashamed I'm from the same planet as the creators of this horror movie. No, you cannot hide these facts by presenting a new famous face with each new scene. Emilio Estevez plays his very boring self, Ashton Kutcher is, as always, annoying, Helen Hunt does what she does best: self pitying, and Heather Graham still can't act. Surprising exceptions were Christian Slater and Demi Moore, who at least do some acting for their money. Nuff said.

With a contrived script that creates wooden and unidimensional characters, even all the acting talent present in "Bobby" couldn't save the film from sounding like a recitation of hollow lines. The shallow attempts at probing issues of racism, sexism, classism, drugs, and consumerism fall deadeningly flat. "Bobby" uses every heart-wrenching/profound/"Aha" moment line one could possibly devise to elicit responses from the audience, and yet the only factor, in my mind, that elicited a response from the audience was the actual footage of RFK, his speeches, and Simon and Garfunkel's "The Sounds of Silence." Not "about" RFK in the least, it is ostensibly "about" society at the time, but it is a poor attempt that smacks of Hollywood falseness.

Yeah... Emillio apparently loved Crash so much he decided to remake it, but with an actual event heading, and less emotion and over all story telling. I went into this expecting an Oliver Stone type look at the assassination of JFK, instead got a bunch of stories without heart. Some of the cast is seemingly there for no reason... I mean Demi Moore as the aging singer, and Emillo himself as her husband, what's the point? They're not even in the kitchen or the press conference... I guess Emillio tossed himself in there as an ego boost. The final 15 minutes are the only thing about this film worth watching. That I'll give him credit for, truly emotional at the end there. WARNING this isn't about Bobby Kennedy at all... and yeah if you're tempted to see this film, just go rent Crash it's much better.
