There was no point to this movie. Watching a singer walking around the city and somehow always getting the same cab driver. Hello, what is the point of this waste of good talent. The scriptwriter & director should go back to school and learn how to make a film. Pure waste of time.

My wife and I watched this at home on DVD from our public library.
This movie has received a number of very bad reviews and very low ratings, which are NOT deserved at all. It in fact is a very good movie to do what it sets out to do. It is a character study of a female singer who seems a bit past her prime, then gets some very upsetting health news. The movie follows her for almost 24 hours, interacting with family and friends, reluctant to tell any of them what is going on.
One will like this movie if they are a Sarah Jessica Parker fan, who now is in her early 50s. She plays Vivienne, a professional singer. Divorced, she has a 16-yr-old daughter who lives with Viv's ex-husband. The movie is not dynamic, in fact often there are reasonably long pauses, we are supposed to identify with the terror that surely must be going through her mind.
We only hear her sing a couple of times, quiet nondescript songs. I was surprised when I looked at her bio and found she had a lot of early musical theater experience, even playing the lead in Annie at one point. So she is probably a better singer than is shown in this movie.

Never a slower moving movie has there been. You keep watching and waiting for something, anything to happen, but nothing ever does. The Lyft driver was the only interesting character (he was also nice to look at). I'm a Sarah Jessica Parker fan, so I'll see any production that she's in. This just wasn't a good movie. I'm not sure any actor could make this movie enjoyable. And who let that wig happen???

With the right lead actress this would have been a 6 or 7 star review. SJP could not handle this dramatic role. Her French speaking parts, few words as they were, needed more convincing. The supporting cast was actually really good.

There is a certain grace at how the film flows. A series of moments that drag into eachother, it attempts to depict what it may feel like to be in the shoes of someone who's just learned they may lose their health significantly & devastatingly.
It's slow, disjointed, awkward: not that fun to watch. This is the point.

Great cast , loads of talented actors in this one but even though the story line seemed interesting it was the most boring slowest flick I have ever endured I felt generous because of the cast in rating it a 4

I've seen Sarah Jessica Parker do some good work. Unfortunately, Blue Night doesn't qualify. The, ahem, stars of this movie suffer the fate that great empires suffer in their decline. They fall victim to indulging their own comfort and importance, while ignoring the effort and craft that first brought them success.
The five lead actors, JSP, Zellweger, Baker, Bisset, Kinney in Blue Night set a weak tone for eachother (props to Bisset for trying) and everything else that follows. In what should be a gripping, gritty emotionally tense drama these high profile performers lack anything near the craft to do the job.
Sarah Jessica Parker is Carrie Bradshaw, still. Flung into a story well out of her emotional depth, SJP is supposed to be feted New York singer, Vivienne, who discovers she has a terminal brain tumor. You know what the emotional hook of this drama is, for us the viewer? That she doesn't tell anyone. But that doesn't stop everyone she encounters from being infected with the ennui of her reaction to her situation. I can only imagine director, Fabian Constant, previously a TV movie documentary director, didn't have a clue about how the story and performances were coming off the screen.
And, even in our suspending disbelief, the gulf between Ms Jessica Parker as a career singer and a laudable singing artist, is laughable.
Even weird, eclectic New York wouldn't bother with her performance for a minute.
While the plot makes an effort to achieve something, the storyline trails weakly along until I gave up expecting anything good. There are so many soulful pauses between characters we care little or nothing about, it is about as stimulating as warm milk before bedtime.
In the hands of an actress who has built skills based on dedication to her craft, like Meryl Streep or Annette Bening, this would have been a tour de force.
In the hands of a TV and Movie star who, when faced with the dramatic arc and challenges of her character, and a weak director, falls back on girly schtick that made her broadly popular on TV, it is pap.
Blue Night ends up an animated Hall Mark card with disproportionately decent production values. Having said that, undemanding Sarah Jessica Parker fans will love it. They may even think it's good for them as an excuse for another night on the couch with that tub of Ben and Jerry's.

Fantastic crew, but poorly done movie. The story is just getting lost, not produced well at all. It's really waste of time. Still can't believe that the movie was this bad.

The only good thing in this movie were SJP's high-heeled, ankle-strap shoes. The end.
