Surprisingly to state Tim Burton's idea came from a musical created in written by Frederick Hazleton in 1865 called Sweeney Todd: The barber of Fleet Street or also called The String of Pearls, which Todd and lovely woman named Mrs. Lovett killed and cooked meat pies and sold it to unsuspected costumers, however; the musical had upgraded through out the years and it wasn't until a Broadway play called Sweeney Todd rewrote by Christopher Bond in 1973 did the barber have an actual reason why he butchered helpless costumers and made meat pies out of them, therefore; I am sure that Bloodthirsty Butchers were inspired by the original play just like Tim Burton with the 1973 version. I was inspired by this movie greatly, but anyways lets say both movies a gore filled and amusing I like them both equally.

Inspired by the classic urban legend of Sweeney Todd, a murderous barber who kills his customers and has them baked into pies by his business partner, Bloodthirsty Butchers keeps the basic foundation and makes up the rest with less than ideal results. Of course, it looks even cheaper than an elementary school play, but that could be forgiven if the script was tight and the acting was better. Unfortunately, it's not and the most you have to look forward to are a few gory murder scenes that don't much convince.

So bad, it is now known as a classic cult gore fest. I watched this at the drive in when it was just released, along with other gore films that were popular at the time. I remember the title as "Night of the Bloody Butchers". I was 17 then.

Excessively talky and cheap horror movie apparently shot in England somewhere. The main girl from TORTURE DUNGEON is in it, although I couldn't point her out. Lots of subplots and bad acting. I've seen a couple of the actors in better movies. I think the pie-making lady turned up later on a British sitcom called GOOD NEIGHBOURS. My favorite character is "the *." The scene where a couple finds a boob in a pie is priceless.

"Bloodthirsty Butchers" is possibly Andy Milligan's most famous horror film.This is somewhat clever take on the Sweeney Todd story woven around themes of dominance and submission.Populated with a collection of selfish characters and a very small number of decent human beings bloody murders are taking place on Fleet Street and nobody seems to notice caught up as they are in their own little worlds--until they wind up murdered themselves.Unfortunately I found this film a bit disappointing-I enjoyed "The Ghastly Ones"(1968)more.There are some good scenes of splashy gore and butchery,but the rest of the film is too talky and dull.In my humble opinion Andy Milligan was an underrated filmmaker-I'll definitely check out more of his stuff if I have a chance.4 out of 10-a breast in a pie scene is priceless!
