Completely forgettable film: extremely bad sound effects from creaking drawers, footsteps, etc. Added to this are all too funny noises from Werner Pochath, who admittedly acts okay. Stay away, nonsense.

The visually striking Austrian actor, Werner Pochath, makes for quite a jarring anti-hero in still controversial, 70s Euro-shocker, 'Bloodlust' aka 'Mosquito der Schänder' (1977) and his truly macabre machinations as 'Mosquito', the maniacal, blood-thirsting, deaf-mute necrophiliac makes for a marvellously malevolent, absolutely stomach-churning motion picture persona you shall not soon forget! As never in the annals of bloodthirsty B-Cinema have beautifully, morgue-laid females been violated so exquisitely, never once have blissfully supine bodies been exsanguinated so desperately, never before in living memory have all vestiges of humanity been suspended so disgracefully! Apparently a film so greatly beloved of Teutonic troublemaker, Jörg Buttgereit, it was said to have provided macabre inspiration for his own morbid masterpiece of grievous grave violation, 'Nekromantik. Serbian director, Marijan Vajda's Bloodlust 'will haunt the darkest corners of your mind!

Werner Pochtath is excellent as a traumatised deaf-mute office worker who's pushed over the edge by the cruel teasing of his co-workers. He visits a morgue and cuts up the recently dead female corpses with his knife. He removes one corpse's head, and the eyeballs from another. He goes one step further when he buys a glass straw and uses it to drink blood from the dead, and his murder victims. Scenes of Pochtath slurping blood like milkshake (and in one instance dribbling it over a dead person's face) are disturbing and unforgettable. He also collects dolls. This eerie, dreamlike obscurity is well-made and pretty fascinating (it's based on a true story). It should be as well known as George A. Romero's similar MARTIN (made around the same time). With Ellen Umlauf, some surprising nudity, a spooky soundtrack and odd dilaogue on the English language dub. Movie reviews at: spinegrinderweb.com

A funny thing happened to me while watching "Mosquito": on the one hand, the hero is a deaf-mute and the director is totally unable to make us understand why he does what he does (mutilating mannequins...er, excuse me, corpses) through his images. On the other hand, the English version at least is very badly dubbed. So I found myself wishing there had been both more AND less dialogue at the same time! This film is stupid (funny how this guy has access to every graveyard and mortuary in his town) and lurid (where would we be in a 70s exploitationer without our gratuitous lesbian scene?). Not to mention the "romantic" aspect (oh, how sweet!)...Miss it. (*)

This German horror film has to be one of the weirdest I have seen. I was not aware of any connection between child abuse and vampirism, but this is supposed based upon a true character. Our hero is deaf and mute as a result of repeated beatings at the hands of his father. he also has a doll *, but I cannot figure out where that came from. His co-workers find out and tease him terribly. During the day a mild-manner accountant, and at night he breaks into cemeteries and funeral homes and drinks the blood of dead girls. They are all attractive, of course, else we wouldn't care about the fact that he usually tears their clothing down to the waist. He graduates eventually to actually killing, and that is what gets him caught. Like I said, a very strange movie that is dark and very slow as Werner Pochath never talks and just spends his time drinking blood.

Abused clerk with a doll * tries to cope with memories of his abusive father develops a weird fascination for drinking the blood from corpses before amping it up toward murder. Disturbing, but in many ways not very good little horror film that is more than likely going to curl your toes. As with many of these films its the acts that disturb but not the whole package, since our "hero" is too crazy and too much of a milk toast to amount to much. And give it points for a non sensational, realistic ending. Worth a look only for horror fans. 6 out of 10

As others have mentioned this at once, obscure, perverse and rather slow. I'm not sure I'd go along with 'silly', but there are some moments more inept than others which, possibly just as well, help one treat this less than wholeheartedly seriously. On the other hand, such is the lead's obsession, to the extent that we cannot see why he even foes these things or what he gets out of them, we are drawn onto his side. There are no repercussions after his forays into graveyards and mortuaries, no evident police investigations and left with the awful night activities and the merciless teasing he gets in the office, we tend to see things from his point of view. The very 'nonsense' element regarding the bloodlust means that we are unable to detach ourselves as easily from the protagonist and his activities. Interesting and gory and certainly a very different take on obsession.
