I mean we all want to see Seann William Scott thrive in a dramatic role but honestly this is not his fault because he does a pretty good job but, wow, the writers were sleeping on this one. I'm not sure how this movie has three writers credited unless the collaborations between them were just trashing each others ideas to the point where nearly any kind of actual conflict is taken out of the script and we end up with a nice looking skeleton of a movie that does not satisfy the genre in the slightest. It has its moments (primarily the gore) but there is just not enough of it and what is there tends to just repeat, like all the inbetween scenes just repeat and repeat and repeat until we are not sure why we are watching this mopy couple and their mother slog around this house for an hour and change unfrequented by some minimal detective stuff and some family drama and helping out troubled youth the stupidest way possible. Not sure what happened, it could have been decent if Jason Blum did more than just put his name on this: I mean we watch Blumhouse movies for a reason and that is because Blum usually has a pretty good eye what will look good produced. I wanted to like it and the cinematography, music, editing, locations, and even the acting was good, but, as I've already stated, the writers really didn't put enough together to make a decent plot of a movie out of.

A psychopath that cares? I have to say going into this its seemed like a dexter ripoff but thats far from true. The character seann plays is what separates it. It's a great movie go see it!

BLOODLINE (2019) *** Seann William Scott, Mariela Garriga, Dale Dickey, Kevin Carroll, Christie Herring, Raymond Alexander Cham, Jr., Leith M. Burke , Nick Boraine, Dusty Sorg, Sean H. Scully, Larsen Thompson. Pitch-dark horror film with Scott (at a career high and severe shift in doing so) as a family man high school counselor * serial killer who seeks to stop his inner turmoil of his abused past by killing off his young charges' ne'er do well kin. Director Henry Jacobson (who co-scripted with Avra Fox-Lerner & Will Holey) keeps things sharp as a scalpel with some brutal kills while maintaining a balance of family values no matter how twisted.

I got the message what this movie is all about and its undertones....
Just wish that somebody had delivered that before I watched one of the most boring films this year. So far....

This is like a Deathwish with a psychopathic twist of the Equalizer. It's supposed to be about helping the helpless abused victims, right? But eventually the whole family are in on it and have blood on their hands. I can understand why he did what he did, but his mother killing the nurse for what? Doing her job? And his wife killing the only person who could expose her sick husband's acts? Sorry but the movie went places I didn't like it to go. It's ok to watch it once, if you don't have to pay for it.

Seann William Scott was my favourite actor growing up. I was bordering on obsessed with his portrayal of 'Stifler' in the 'American Pie' movies. And even though he didn't have a major role in it, he was in 'Final Destination' one of my favourite movies when I was younger. After that though he's never really been able to find another role that suited him so perfectly. I think he was so damned good as 'Stifler' that even now, 20 years later, he is still type-cast. I guess it was only a matter of time before he turned to a more serious role, and let me tell you, it wasn't half bad.
'Bloodline' makes it very clear very early on that this film is not afraid to go to some dark and shocking places. One of the things the audience is forced to watch in graphic detail early on will stick with me for a while. This continues throughout the film, mostly in the form of excessive violence. I really enjoyed that side of things. To me it showed the passion this character had in regards to what he was doing.
Something the movie does very well is show just how tough having a newborn baby is. In fact I thought to myself during the movie that the true horror story here is actually what they're having to deal with in terms of the baby. Something else I noticed in certain scenes is that Scott is capable of possessing incredibly intense eyes. The stares he gives at certain moments are quite captivating to watch.
There's a lot to like about 'Bloodline' but the biggest concern I'd suggest is the film lacks in conflict a little, especially though the first half. When you look back on it everything went a little too smoothly, and even when the film sets itself up with something hanging out the back of a trunk, it doesn't come to anything. The second half of the film becomes more aware of this and puts it right however.
I would recommend not reading th IMDb synopsis if you haven't already. I'm not sure why they phrased it that way but it is very poor and should be removed. 'Bloodline' is a dark, twisty and shocking horror movie where you never know what is going to happen next. Scott puts his heart and soul into his performance and never phones it in and the result is a very good film that I would highly recommend watching.
