What movie the critics saw in Cannes??? Because the movie that I attended in São Paulo's premiere this Monday (25 Aug) is simply wonderful. Meirelles's direction is so excellent as in "The Constant Gardener" and "City of God". Also, the movie counts with fabulous acting of Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Gael García Bernal, Danny Glover and Alice Braga. The hard and sometimes shocking content of "Blindness" is perfectly equilibrated with a welcome hope touch. "Blindness" is really a powerful lesson of cinema and acting. The best tribute that someone could give to Saramago. 10/10

It's taken from the novel, and for those who read the novel, they will tell that the novel was so much deeper in taking you through the darkness and the misery of that white blindness. The novel has so many meanings that I feel I can't even express here in few words, but the movie tried to intense the sequence of events to be 2 hours and they could do that in a very good way. Reading the novel would be great for the people who liked the movie. However, I love the movie so much! What I didn't like about the movie that in many scenes the actors or actresses didn't act well that I could see that they were only acting and that was so disturbing during watching and being so indulged in the feeling.

God this could have been so good and turned out so bad. Acting was horrible with "blind" characters obviously reacting to with their eyes to events and to each other. Directing? Non existent. Story, unbelievable and just down right insulting. A blind gunman? Come on...! People sent to a hell hole and not one family member ever shows up to look for their son or daughter etc? Insulting. But still, a blind gun man...??? I cant help but decry this as perhaps the worst film since Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. Director Fernando Meirelles next movie is called "Extraordinary Garbage" which is about all I can say about this one....

I watched this movie last night and want my 2 hours back! I think the acting was okay but that's all that's okay about it. The movie makes no sense at all. There are more holes than a bag of donuts. What caused the blindness? How come Julianne Moore's character wasn't affected? And why oh why did she allow herself and those women to succumb to sex if she could see? And where did all the sighted people go? The plot is completely implausible. Yes, we all know what can happen to human beings in unimaginable circumstances. We don't need another movie about it. And we certainly don't need another passive woman movie. This movie leaves more questions than answers. And the ambiguous ending is, well, who really cares? It's all pointless and a complete waste of time. I grade this movie F for forget-about-it.

I saw the movie after I read the book without expecting too much. First of all, the book is very intense with emotions, images, thoughts, written with an extraordinary language by a Nobel winner. At times it is very difficult to read. I loved loved loved the book! Having said that, I wanted to see the movie out of curiosity. Meirelles is a wonderful director, and I admired the fact that he would bring such a difficult book to the screen. The casting is amazing. I wouldn't want anyone else in the leading role but Julianne Moore. Mark Ruffalo as her husband was also great. As well as all the other characters. One thing that also fascinated me was the depiction of the white blindness, and how it was in all the right places, not derailing much from the book. I suppose that as the book is not for everyone, the same goes for the movie. A lesson that should be learned is that you shouldn't always believe the ratings, sometimes it's better to explore.

OK I really don't know how to begin, but I'll talk about the acting first: Julianne Moore was perfect! She is for sure one of the best actress in USA and her performance made the movie more terrific. without her the film would not be so intense and emotive. The other actors were great to: Mark Ruffalo, Alice Braga, Gael Garcia Bernal, Danny Glover... Fernando Meirelles is really one of the bests directors ever. The cinematography was great to! You feel blind, when you watch the movie. And is really the difference between others novel's adaptations. The drama is honest and sincere with the audience. It's not a movie that makes you heartbreaking with clichés. I HOPE THAT THE ACADEMY REMEMBERS IT!!!

This is a very powerful, different and darkly disturbing film. As the film progresses it is quite horrifying to see how society breaks down and primeval instincts take hold (especially in the men), showing that the world really could not cope if a loss of one of the 5 senses were to take a sudden and inexplicable hold over the population. It also depicts fear of the highest order, again showing that fear of the unknown is the first response whether it be appropriate or not. The actors were amazing and, as I work with blind people, were truly realistic. It also proves an excellent opportunity to highlight disability and I hope that everyone who watches this film will feel compelled to try being blind for a day by wearing a blindfold and see how hard life is. By doing this the world would become more tolerant of disability as it can happen to anyone at any time.
