This movie is about 3 girls who were friends growing up, get together and go to an isolated island. You'd think they'd spend time catching up but almost immediately meet up with.....yup, 3 guys. Who turn out to be not so friendly. Quickly it turns into an all out girl vs guy fight for survival. And to get back off island alive. All the characters are poorly developed and seem so dry and unbelievable. The storyline is predictable and slow. Maybe even tedious. It's a shame because the story sounded good and had a decent cover. This movie had great potential that was not realized. It's a shame more time wasn't spent on this movie.

I ordered it from Netflix because of Bosworth, Bell and the description (which turned out to be a fabrication) what a waste.
I knew I was in trouble when three women who haven't seen each other in years decide to get together and one picks a remote, uninhabited island as the destination. Uh, yeah. Then they meet three "hunters" on an island that apparently doesn't have any animals so that makes sense. They happen to know one of the hunters so sure, two groups of people randomly go to the same obscure island and they happen to know each other. Things go downhill from there as far as reality goes. There is almost no effort at character development so forget really caring about any of the characters.
Either they ad libbed the whole thing or the writer felt compelled to make f every other word. I lost count at over 100 times so if you make a drinking game out of it be warned. The script is pathetic so maybe the actors just added it for effect. Unfortunately the "action" scenes are even worse with one ridiculous scene following another.
Probably my favorite dumb scene is when one of the "hunters" is close enough to shoot one of the women in the head, at night, as she is moving, but can't shoot the other two who were right next to her or even see them after they take about three or four steps. But there are plenty of scenes that give that one a run for the money and all combined it makes for a really stupid movie.
About the only good thing is the acting by the ladies involved, Bell running, but that only goes so far and cant save a ridiculous plot. Even at 80 minutes it was 40 minutes too long. Just a really bad movie.

"What happened was an accident. Abby is sorry." Three friends set out for a getaway weekend on an island they used to frequent when they were younger. While they are talking they are surprised when three men who have been hunting show up at their camp site. The two groups begin talking and drinking. When a fatal accident happens the girls relaxing weekend turns into a fight for survival. There are movies that are made that you have to really pay attention to and make you think. While this is very entertaining this is not one of those kind of movies. The movie is really nothing that deep but I did enjoy it. Be prepared for it though, some parts are very gory and a little hard to watch. On the other hand this is a "girl power" type movie so it does have that going for it. If you like movies like the Perfect Getaway then you will like this one as well. It was entertaining and a good watch but nothing that will keep you talking or thinking. Overall, fun and exciting but nothing that original. I liked it though. I give it a B.

I literally just created an account so I could review this film. I am floored by the very notion that it received, as of right now, a 4.7 on this site. Are you serious? 'Oz the Great and Powerful' got 6.5 for pete's sakes. Have you seen that tripe? Unbelievable.
These women aren't special, that's the point. They aren't strong, they have no means to fight back, they're believably terrified of the situation. If you're waiting for them to retaliate against their attackers with a slew of clever traps, you may prefer such torture * as I Spit on Your Grave. This is a thriller. No one promised you guts. In fact, I was a little confused by the nudity. I didn't think this would be one of those movies.
So yes, the notion of several beautiful women on a camping trip from hell has been done. The revenge flick has been done, the "female empowerment" horror movement is one we all know. But I felt Black Rock was different, it had heart. It reminded me a bit of The Descent, in that it built characters I truly liked, they had dimension, I cared what happened to them. They fought back because they had to, and it was hard, and they didn't magically gain superpowers to do it. It built suspense, and threw a few thriller clichés out the window with the way things turned out. And maybe a little bit of female empowerment never hurt anybody.

I went into this with no expectations and Black Rock is a decent little Indie thriller with some good suspense-filled moments. The story revolves around three long-time friends, two of whom are feuding who camp out on their old stomping ground of Black Rock to reconnect only their party is interrupted by three men who we learn have been dishonorable discharged from the army and aren't exactly friendly.
All hell breaks loose and the three heroines are hunted down. It's nothing we haven't seen before but the poor reviews are surprisingly poor for what seemed like a decent little movie. It has its flaws but character and the suspense are both there and the ladies Aselton(Abby) who also happens to be the director gave it a solid effort. Lake Bell (Lou) with and Kate Bosworth their roles exceptionally well for this story which never goes too over the top and stays believable for the most part.
It won't be winning any major awards but in my books it was a good survival story which had me interested all the way to the end.
6/10 (though rated 7 because it was better than people say it is)

Three old friends (Katie Aselton, Lake Bell, Kate Bosworth) go to an isolated island to relieve their childhood and resolve some personal issues from the past, when something goes wrong. But what went really wrong was this movie itself. Three very good actresses with very poor performances, a very poorly written script and a story already told in a dozen different movies. It reminded me of A Perfect Getaway, except that one was at least entertaining. Black Rock has some of the worst scenes I've seen in a movie in the past years, is boring and got me thinking in several occasions, "what the hell is happening?". Considering the actresses I thought it would be promising, but the only thing promising about Black Rock is that, eventually, it's going to end. An what an ending... Simply terrible.
I do not recommend this movie for anybody. What a shame.

This movie was a pleasant surprise. I was thinking when I got this that it may be average at best, but it was totally the opposite. A very well crafted story and the acting was pretty good too. The plot was better than expected also. The movie started off nicely, three women who were good friends in the past get back together for the first time since they were kids to spend time on an island called Black Rock. They meet some local hunters and find out they know one of them from when they were children. After inviting them to join them in a few drinks on the beach, the atmosphere changes into one of panic and horror as the situation and friendships are turned on their head in a brutal confrontation. The in- your-face plot and some of the scenes had me gripped and actually caring about the main characters. Things just go from one horrible situation to another and it leaves you no time to adjust to it. As I said, I was pleasantly surprised by this film, it wasn't anything I was expecting. I give it a solid 8 out of 10. Recommend it.

Three girls decide to go away for a weekend to an island known as Black Rock they visited as children. Once there, they meet three soldiers on a hunting expedition who have been discharged dishonourably from the army...
Black Rock for the most has decent enough acting, and I was drawn to it by a review on one of the horror podcasts I listen to. On there it was described as "a movie you wouldn't want to watch on a Sunday morning with a cup of tea" which of course was the time I chose then to watch it.
Sadly, there's little here that would offend a parish vicar. It's a plot by numbers excursion of girls attacked, girls fight back. And while I wouldn't say it was totally boring, there was little in the way of tension, gore, or thrills watching it. When it comes to "horror" these days (years?) you really have to look to Europe for anything of substance, and it seems ironic that somewhere like mild and cultured France can spit out horror which would give your grandma a heart attack while America gives us something like this PG fare.
Black Rock is really only recommended then if you have 90mins to kill and can't find anything better.
