With his latest movie "Crna macka, beli macor" (Black Cat, White Cat) Kusturica proves us once again that he's a great director. Well it may not be his masterpiece but it's still a really good film. If you are among those, who love Kusturica's crazy type of film-making then you will be satisfied for sure. The film is full of interesting and very eccentric characters, loud music (not Bregovic, but still good. especially the dance remix of "pit bull"), surreal and absurd images, etc. Especially the scene, where a fat woman (she resembles Divine in a way) pulls out a nail from a board with her a**, is unforgettable. I guess Kusturica will never be able to top his masterpiece "Dom za vesanje" (Time of the Gypsies), but still I'm very happy that he changed his mind and started directing movies again.

I found CHAT NOIR CHAT BLANC a disgusting movie. After one hour I left the cinema because I could not stand seeing that all the jokes were played on the weak and helpless. The director shows not the slightest respect to humans. He tries to make us laugh with the cruel and mighty gangster bosses, who enjoy to see their poor victims struggling with their fate. The story only consists of a random collection of bad jokes, there is no tension, no plot. The characters are not worked out, only rough sketches. Most of the women in the film are only used as men's accessoires, to make living more comfortable, they are not seen as individuals. However, there is one exception: A girl, about twenty years old, who enjoys the naive admiration of a younger boy and lets hims do a lot of favours for her. This scene (about 5 min) is the only scene which builds a little charm in the disgusting scenario. But in conclusion: Do not spoil your time seeing this movie!

Emir Kusturica's 'Black Cat, White Cat' can be described as Serbian 'Snatch' with the perfect dosage of nasty and dark slapstick. It is quite hard to find the correct words to describe this absurdist fable about rivalry, doublecross, and love. Yet the grotesque humor doesn't take away any sweetness from the love story arch, and all the characters stay sympathetic till the end together with all their quirks. Mesmerizing piece of surreal cinema. If there is one Emir Kusturica movie you have to see, then it is 'Black Cat, White Cat'.

What a wonderful comedy. As sad and serious "Time of the Gypsies" is, as lighthearted and entertaining is this story about a father and a son and their struggles to live their life. It is an entertaining film and a really good Kusturica-feature. 7 Stars.

This movie is about gypsys. it's also about love, death, family, business, alcohol, crime, and barnyard animals. I'm not too sure how close Emir Kusturica's movie is to reality, but the reality he presents is one in which people, second-hand appliances, geese and two cats exist in a swirl of chaos. this chaos is only apparent, because it's obvious that generation after generation maintains this chaotic existence. that doesn't mean it's not one of the funniest circumstances I've seen in a long time. For it's originality, humor and brilliant screenwriting, I whole-heartedly give this movie 7/10.

I made the fatal mistake of viewing this with expectations set high. Having eagerly anticipated viewing this one for some time, I finally managed to watch this - granted on video. In summary it was a disappointment. The wacky character and situation ingredients all seemed to be there, but it just didn't come together. The laughs rely too much on a slapstick formula, which for me was handled a little clumsily, and without smooth comedy the plot was too thin and predictable to carry it. If you're going to watch this one, and don't say don't watch it, expect little more than simple fun and you'll probably be okay.

Kusturica did some of the best films I have seen, but this one shows that he has mellowed out, that now he's only funny, that there is almost no surrealism left for him to show us. This is slapstick. I'm used to much more from him. And by the way, language is not Serbo-Croate (which also doesn't exist anymore, now it's Serbian and Croatian respectively), but Gypsy language. They are funny and merry and entertaining, but dreams have left Emir, or maybe he has left them in the Balkans. You better watch his other films instead, twice.

Far not the best Kustarica's movie, but it is still a good comedy about the characters we meet in his previous films. Too much havoc.. to much noise, but who cares, one look at the faces of the characters (where does he find them?) and you enter the enchanted world of the east European gypsies. It's a piece of life absurd and surealistic as it is. And if it resembles even a bit the real life of these people.. well...
