The movie was really good and so intensively scary about a couple who moved into a new home and the woman is possessed by a ghost of the person who lived at the apartment. The whole film keeps you in the edge of your seat and makes you jump in a few scenes. It was straightforward and the mystery kept you guessing until the very end. Ajay & Urmila's acting were terrific and what has Urmila done to her hair? It was short, thick and curly; probably to suit the character and long hair won't look good in a horror film. Bhoot is inspired from The Exorcist but Bhoot is a lot better and I did not like The Exorcist one bit. It has to be one of Ram Gopal Verma's best films.

Soon I set my butt on the couch and launched myself in a vortex of stupidity, nonsense, boringness, and cheapness. The scare scenes are stupid, but the sound is surprisingly clear. But the visual display of the movie is like that of the early 80's. I mean there are tiny granule-like specks. It is like tiny ants crawling all over the T.V. screen. I was really disappointed at this movie. I shall warn you...if you want to save money. Ask those who have watched the movie you like so that there will be no hard feelings in the next minute of your life.

I had always admired Ram Gopal Verma for experimenting with different genres. This was before he began to continuously churn out trash like 'Sarkar', 'Nishabd' and who could forget the infamous twin disasters like 'Sarkar Raj' and 'ki Aag'. Back to the movie at hand, 'Bhoot' is a well crafted film. The cinematography is excellent (which has been something consistent in most of Verma's films). Verma also manages to create a tense and chilling atmosphere. The story itself isn't anything new to the genre but Verma's treatment to the subject is commendable. He mixes both clichés and novelty with skill. For example, while in most horror films the setting is usually a large dark space, Manjit's house is quite small but cosy enough for a couple. The story itself makes sense. There are no 'loose' ends. Light is effectively used but sound is at times overdone. The 'ghost noises' are forced into situations that did not require it. The most effective scenes are the silent ones or where background score is played to a minimum. The washed out colours add to the gloomy atmosphere. I also liked how certain scenes were shot without resorting to spraying blood on screen. Urmila Matondkar plays Swati with all guns blazing. 2003 was the peak of her acting career where she delivered equally strong but very diverse performances in films like 'Pinjar', 'Bhoot' and 'Tehzeeb'. A lesser actress could have easily messed up Swati and made her into the caricature damsel in distress but Matondkar is simply transcendent and dominates a film that also stars the likes of Nana Patekar, Rekha, Ajay Devgan, Seema Biswas, Victor Bannerjee and Tanuja. Devgan is also brilliant as the helpless husband who loves his wife but is also terrified of her. Victor Bannerjee too is likable and Seema Biswas is wonderfully awkward as the nutso maid. Patekar and Rekha are in their usual form. Fardeen Khan is the weak link but the rest of the cast more than make up for this flaw. 'Bhoot' isn't particularly scary but it is chilling. There are a few jumps that catch the viewer off guard. It's a well-made film that is strongly lifted by Ms. Matondkar's riveting performance. Point to add, the film has no song but the soundtrack is awesome. This is Ram Gopal Verma's homage to horror films.

I found this movie totally boring. The first half was OK. But the second.........was not quite done well. If you expect some thing like The Others, Usual Suspects or Primal Fear, you will be very much disappointed. Rating : A flat 4/10

I have to give credit to Ram Gopal Verma for trying out different types of movies. This time with a horror movie he does well but still there are many flaws in the movie and a lot could have been done to make this movie good and above all scary... That was one thing that was missing. It was missing the edge of the seat moment!!!. Urmila was ok and so was Ajay. But i really think Rekha was wasted in such a small role. I am still awaiting an Indian Horror movie that will really scare me!!! Maybe Ram Gopal Verma's next 'Darna Mana Hai' will do it!

"Bhoot" is a supernatural horror movie set in urban jungle of Bombay.Vishal(Ajay Devgan),a stock analyst and his wife Swati(Urmila Matondkar)move into a new apartment.The fact that the previous occupant died jumping off from the balcony doesn't deter Vishal.He doesn't inform his wife about that tragedy.Eventually,she finds out and then creepy things do happen.She loses sleep and begins to experience strange incidents,illusions and nightmares.The truth is horrifying."Bhoot" is a wonderfully suspenseful horror film made by Ram Gopal Verma("Raat").The cinematography is breathtaking and the atmosphere is so thick that you could cut it with a chainsaw.The climax is pretty disappointing,though.A must-see for fans of Hindi horror.8 out of 10.
