Most comedies that one comes across in Indian mainstream cinema are either slapstick comedies or those that have the same lame and jaded plots or a bunch of jokers chasing a dame. Amidst the usual chaotic comedies, Bheja Fry was a pleasant surprise. More like a stage play, this one can keep you laughing almost till the end. Inspired by the French film ‘The Dinner Game’, the movie has a group of rich friends who invite a simpleton with some ‘talent’ as a guest to their weekly dinners and unbeknownst to the guest, poke fun at him. This week it is Ranjeet’s (Rajat Kapoor) turn to find a ‘talent’ and he lines up an imbecile singer Bharat Bhushan (Vinay Pathak). Just before the fateful night, Ranjeet develops a backache and is unable to make it to the dinner and is also dealing with a wife who may break away anytime. Bharat Bhushan tries his best to help Ranjeet with his backache and his wife, but being an ‘idiot’, he messes up things in the most comical fashion seen in recent Hindi cinema. I had the least expectations out of this movie but this one turned out to be an absolutely fabulous comedy with excellent comic timing and twists. Set more like a stage play, the focus is all on the central characters. Vinay Pathak is extremely convincing as a dork and Rajat Kapoor, Ranvir Shorey & Milind Soman are convincing in their brief. Some unforgettable moments include Bharat Bhushan’s voicemail tone, his ‘it’s ringing’, his desi drink, oh boy, I can go on and on. There is probably no moment where one would feel bored. It’s quality comedy, full value for your money. If you are wondering why I am applauding this movie and giving it only a 7, that’s one star less for being inspired.

For a ardent fan of English films, I was arm twisted into watching this film and came out absolutely enthralled. It was totally unexpected and the plot, script, acting etc was absolutely superb not the kind I would expect from a Hindi Film. Congratulations to the entire cast and crew in producing this excellent film. I am in agreement with the comments made before me from other critics. I am not a huge fan of Indian films and went for this one expecting to be bored and uninterested in the movie. However I must say that this was and exemplary performance and I would recommend everyone to watch the film. The film depicts the typical Indian culture especially the phone conversations, greetings exchanged when one enters a home, anger expressed in an Indian manner and so forth. It does portray a typical Indian yuppie middle class household, where the husband and wife have established their individuality and are independent in their own right, a phenomenon that is emerging especially in the major cities of India. Its a must see film....short and sweet.

Everyone is saying that this is not an original movie. Its copy of the French movie "Dinner Game" OK Fine but you should keep in mind that adaption also requires skills and the director directed the movie pretty well. Vinay Pathak did an awesome performance, This movie is thousand time better than those stupid Karan Johar Movies ppl like. For those who don't know French language will they enjoy "Dinner Game" the same with sub titles? The answer is NO. Subtitles cant give that flavor which we get in Hindi in Bheja Fry. There is a trend that people use to hit only Asian movies (example Bollywood). I am not an Indian but a big Indian movie fan and being a Pakistani I must say that this movie rocks. No Dirty jokes, No filth (Usualy in comic movies ppl like). This movie will remain the best in my all time favorites. Its a must watch if u like comedies like "Angoor" "Gol Mal" "Khata Meetha" "Baton Baton main" "Kissi sey na Kehna". I bet you will not repent.

Bheja Fry is an out and out comedy movie that is very different from the vulgar comedy movies made today. It is clean humor. A must watch for every cine lover, and especially the ones who love comedy. Vinay Pathak has come of age and he should bang the best actor in a comic role award for this movie. The best comedy movie I have seen in a long long time. The good thing about this movie is that it does not create any kind of confusion, a trait on which our generation comedy movies thrive. The length of the movie is also perfect. It has not been dragged at any point. Not having any songs is also a good thing as no song would have fit into the movie. Sarika looks good but she does not have too much of a role in the movie. A complete mature movie viewer film.

The name "bheja fry" didn't promise much grandeur for sure and I went to the hall expecting the worst and cursing my friend who has dragged me into this. But what came was a pleasant surprise as the 95 min. film turned out to be an enthralling rib-tickling joyride. Vinay Pathak has long been an underrated actor and he proves his calibre by delivering a powerhouse performance which lifts an otherwise average film to a comic extravaganza. Everything from his looks to his dialogue delivery was spontaneously suave and had the audience rolling with laughter. The story basically is based on one night when a Music-company owner(Rajat Kapoor) invites a "talented" singer (Pathak) for dinner and that night changes his life in many ways. Rajat Kapoor delivers a decent performance. Sarika looks fresh in a comeback role of sorts. Both Milind Soman and Ranveer Shorey does their part full justice but again Vinay Pathak stole the show. Watch it if you want to watch a good comedy........boy!! Indian cinema needs more of these.

This movie is quite different and handled very uniquely. The theme, storyline and everything about this movie is so refreshingly new that you are charmed by these. The entire movie is a laugh riot and the acting by the main character Bharat Bhushan ( Vinay Pathak )is just exhilarating. Others including Rajat kapoor, Milind Soman and Sarika have done very well. The movie is about the entire stretch of a night and how a man pays for his mischief that he intended to play on others. A very light hearted comedy and very enjoyable. Then why just 6 stars ? Well reading through some others reviews on this site I find that this movie is a copy of the french movie "Dinner Games" . To verify this I checked on the plot of the original and I found that indeed it is true. This requires that the director should acknowledge this fact in the titles but I don't remember having seen that in the movie titles. Well apart from this fact ( though a very embarrassing one ) the movie's direction is flawless and the story is very humorous.

Nowadays, when Indian directors can't make a decent comic flick, a new director all of a sudden comes up with this absolutely hilarious movie. The movie doesn't have even one of our so called superstars of today. All the actors are mostly into Television or stage shows. But still the movie could put even some big big budget movies to shame. Vinay Pathak is simply superb and Rajat Kapoor adds more brilliance. The best part is the impeccable timing of the dialogs because of which you end up laughing at the end of every line spoken. For almost the entire movie, neither could i stop laughing, nor could the rest of the audience in the cinema hall. This is one of the best comedies that i have ever seen. A must watch for every one.

Bheja Fry is unlike any comedy film you must have seen in recent past. It has no big names in the cast, you might not have heard about the director either, promotion of the film is a low key affair... No loud comic drama, no banana slips to make you laugh, no double meaning dialogs. But still it easily qualifies for the most hilarious film of the year. It is 100 odd minutes of pure humor. The film surprises you with the unique wit and classic comedy. You might not be expecting anything from the film and might come out highly satisfied. That is the best thing about the film. This is probably the first time the comic potential of Vinay Pathak has been utilized fully. This is one actor with amazing comic timing. The characters of the film are highly believable and you can actually recall at least one person you know/have met which is similar to each character in the film. The film boasts of great acting, great situations and a very simple script. Though its an adaptation of a french film, it hardly takes the credit away from any of the actors. Watch it for sure, because if you've not seen this, you've laughed less this year.

Wow is the word. This is a great movie, a superb comedy. Probably the likes of Priyadarshan would learn a lesson or two on how to make a simple but brilliant comedy without a big effort and costume drama. I was travelling to India and watched this movie in the flight and was laughing so heavily that i feared at times that the air hostess would probably ask me to shut up. These sort of movies comes once in a while. Excellent acting by everyone. Most of the laughs come from Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey had a small role but he gave the ultimate laughs as well, i suppose its the timing. These guys are natural actors and would really do a world class job for any movie. I hope the Director comes up with more such projects. Watch it !!!
