Sorry, IMDb, but I just have to ask, as others have before me. (But in vain, it seems.) Is the first comment one reads not supposed to be representative of the majority view? And to those who continue to suggest that this trash is actually a movie worth watching and that the critics and the public are at odds: THEN WHY IS IT SUCH A SPECTACULAR FLOP AT THE BOX OFFICE??????????????

The worst disasters due to Ed Wood are way, way behind this as far as bad films go. This is dumb, poorly acted, the plot is ridiculously loose, you name it. If the whole crew had been picked at random on the street I don't think that such a perfectly bad result would have been possible. And I am a sci-fi fan!

Since it got all the requirements of a hollywood blockbuster. Lots of special effects, big landscape, explosions, battle scenes in the sky, good guys defeat bad guys against all odds..... But the truth is that this is amateur film making through and through. From the plot to the script to the direction and to the acting. Let's leave the plot, script and directing as what it is, total junk. The thing I don't get with the acting is John Travolta trying to make a B movie? It sure seems like it. But at the budget they are making it for and his dedication in making this film, I assume he wouldn't think he is making a campy movie. Anyway, probably will be appearing in the Mystery Science Theater 3000 pretty soon, except it is not campy enough, the thing instead looks too amateurish.

This movie employs a highly unusual strategy. Can you resist seeing a movie that you will soon hear can make a serious claim to being one of the worst ever? Probably not, and that must be what they're counting on. There can be no other explanation for just how awful and juvenile this movie is in every respect. I thought L. Ron Hubbard wrote books--not comic books, and this doesn't rise to comic book standards.

This movie will only appeal to scientologists. Everyone else won't be able to stand one minute of it. I wonder, why is John Travolta doing this to his career? Is he planning a second come-back? This movie is so bad he might not be able to recover from it!

I hadn't seen this one before yesterday. It is REALLY AWFUL! There is NO REALISM here. NONE! Why do all the ALEEUNS (!) look like rejects from some bad rock band? Why do the ALEEUNS always treat humans as trash? Oh, right, GOLD! The Universe is full of gold so there is no shortage. There was a nice pile at the end. What the ALEEUNS did with the gold I have no idea. I do have a hearing problem and may have missed some things. Why the ALEEUNS built all those GLASS buildings I have no idea either. Seems like a lot of infrastructure just to mine gold. After 1000 years those old planes and weapons would be junk! This one is so bad, skip it altogether!

Usually with science fiction, I can leave the theater appreciating at least the special effects, but not with Battlefield Earth. Space Balls had better effects! This movie sucked with the proverbial slurping sound. The story was completely unconvincing (primitive men learning to fly Harrier Jets in 7 days?!?!). Travolta's acting was worse than in Face Off! This wasn't an attempt to create an entertaining film. It was John Travolta's effort to appease the Scientology God, L. Ron Hubbard.
