I hated all of the live action Batman movies (yes even the first one). But the animated Batman has always remained true to the comic book, so when they made a movie I had to check it out. This movie had a spectacular story and the Instrumental score was breathtaking. This is one of my favorite movies!

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is a movie that is perfect in every way. The story, visuals, music, characters, and action are all fantastic. Even though the movie is based off of the animated series of the 90's, it's not a requirement to watch any previous material. if this was your introduction to the character of Batman, you can follow along just fine. I can't recommend this movie enough. If you're a Batman fan or looking to get into Batman, this is a must watch.

Mask Of The Phantasm is a far more mature Batman than any i've ever seen.The story is powerful,dark,mysterious,but most importantly realistic.This film could very well be the inspiration for Batman Begins.Mask Of The Phantasm is cocked,locked,and loaded with action,a breathtaking storyline,fantastic animation,and superb voice acting.The twists and turns of the plot is sometimes hard to follow due to a number of flashbacks so children may get very confused.To truly enjoy and appreciate this film you need to be a teenager or adult.Phantasm is a phenomenal adaptation of the character and is portrayed the way he is in the comics.This surpasses Batman and Batman Returns because the characters are much more believable,it also runs Batman Forever and Batman and Robin into the ground well....Every Bat-Fan knows why already.I close by leaving this film in very high regard and recommend it to any Batman fan.

"Watchmen" is best and most accurate comic book movie. "The Dark Knight" is the best superhero movie. "Batman Begins" is the best Live action Batman movie. "Under the Red Hood" is the best Batman animated movie. "Batman Returns" is my favorite But "Mask of the Phantasm" is the a best Batman film ever made. Please make a Sequel or R rated live action version!

Along with the 1989 Tim Burton movie and the 90's television series, Mask of the Phantasm returned Batman to the dark and brooding anti-hero he was supposed to be. This movie and Under the Red Hood are probably the best of the long line of animated movies, but Mask of the Phantasm paved the way for every direct-to-video to come, because it initially failed at the box-office due to a last minute decision to release it in theaters and therefore very little time to market it. The murder-mystery story and the framing of Batman is engaging as well as his subplot which adds more to the Bruce Wayne side of him which really makes him a well rounded character instead of just a masked vigilante. The Phantasm is a chilling presence as the newcomer in the movie and the Joker is awesome as always. Perhaps we could have had many more animated Batman movies in theaters if Mask of the Phantasm had faired better to begin with. The critical praise it got was very positive nevertheless.

Some people might say that "for an animated feature, this is pretty good". I disagree. I say that for any kind or type of movie, Batman or not, animated or not, this is awesome. I'm glad that it actually got a release in theaters before being put on DVD and VHS. Otherwise, it would not have as big a fanbase as it does. But that, could not, in any way possible, make me like it any more, or any less. The Joker is given one of the best story lines ever to be involved in, the Joker himself is wonderful, and Mark Hamill did a fine job. When I first watched this, I did not at all recognize Mark Hamill as the Joker. I still get floored, every time I watch this, at that fact. Mark Hamill is the very definition of the Crazed Clown in the world of animation. The last scene is one of the best, with Batman staring out over the water, forever lonely.

While the live-action "Batman" movies of the late 80's and 90's seemed to get quite a bit wrong (more so in the latter two), "Mask of the Phantasm" gets it right -- the noir mood, the grim power of its hero, the conflict of Batman/Bruce Wayne's dual identity, all in a package that kids and adults can enjoy together. The animated "Batman" TV show and films represent the best translation of this great character -- SUB ZERO, featuring Batman taking on Mr. Freeze, is way, way better than the disastrous, similarly-themed BATMAN AND ROBIN.
