There's not much to say about Neeraj Pandey's "Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha" except that the movie itself is unsure of what it wants to be. It's at times a romantic drama, and at other times, an action movie or even sometimes a Rashomon-esque mystery thriller. But at everything it tries, the movie fails miserably. The worst of its crimes, moreso than the whole outdated soul-mate stuff, is how utterly predictable every bit of it was. And predictability wouldn't really matter in a movie like this, if only they didn't try to make it a movie that has a secret to be revealed. But for all its flaws, the movie is rather vanilla and inoffensive, and doesn't really give you a reason to go beyond 'dislike' into 'hate' territory. So yea, it's essentially a movie meant to be discarded and forgotten.

Some directors know how to only make low budget films well, you give them bigger budgets and the churn out garbage. This film is nothing but a prime example of how an overindulgent director has made an 80s concept film and stretched it for 2.5hrs+ After A Wednesday and special 26 which were high concept films, Neeraj Pandey has been completely exposed. His technical skills and ability to extract performance from stars are extremely poor. Earlier he got away because he had Naseer in Wednesday and Manoj Bajpai in Special 26 to save his mediocre skills. Auro mein... is not even a film, it is a joke this director has played on us.

Young Devgn (an impressive Maheshwari) and young Tabu reside in the same chawl, are very much in love and desire to start a life together. However, a regrettable event permanently alters their life. For a crime he did not commit, Devgn is imprisoned and Tabu marries Sheirgill. Many years later, old Tabu and old Devgn cross paths again only to part ways forever. There's not much of a story in #AuronMeinKahanDumTha. Nevertheless, unlike what the critics would have us believe, the movie is not terrible and features good performances. The main issue is "it is slow". The low box office statistics may be attributed to today's youth, who want instant gratification and lack the patience to sit through such a film. Many scenes are repetitive. Running time needs to be reduced by 20 minutes. Rating 2.5/5.

Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha. Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha belongs to the old school cinema. It concentrates more on storytelling and ditches all the other elements like VFX, item songs, steamy scenes to show the chemistry between the lead pair and a syntax that will create controversy or catch eyeballs. To put it simply AMKDT is devoid of the masala thought to be crucial for a Bollywood box office success. In a world where everything is instant from coffee to noodles to gratification what is served is a well brewed, flavoured and fragrant Kahwa. It demands attention. AMKDT like the Kahwa has a blend of flavours, mildly spiced, sweet and savoury and the fragrance of saffron and rose petals. Unlike coffee you don't grab it but relish sip by sip. The story moves in flash backs and present times. It has its heart at the right place. The beauty lies in its simplicity and soulfulness. Krishna (Ajay Devgan) is undergoing a sentence for a murder. His sentence has been remitted to 22 years on grounds of good behaviour. Krishna doesn't want to leave the prison as he has nowhere and no one to go to. He knows no one will be waiting for him, not even his lady love Vasudha (Tabu). He is also skeptical about the changed world. The tension and anxiety that Krishna and Vasudha feel as his day of release draws closer is palpable. The scene where Krishna crosses the gate of jail and waits a while at the no man's land staring at the final exit gate is painful. His concern that he is not ready for a life outside is again so relatable. Vasudha is not only weighed down with the guilt of moving ahead but also the guilt of continuing to look back. The roles of younger Krishna and Vasudha are essayed by Shantanu Maheshwari and Saiee Manjrekar. The strength of AMKDT lies in its story telling, music and performances. Ajay Devgan and Tabu render superlative performances. Shantanu Maheshwari and Saiee Manjrekar are earnest. Jimmy Shergill's cameo adds to the twist in the tale. After a long time there is a film with remarkable music. The song 'Tu' is picturized beautifully, especially the Janmashtami celebrations. 'Kahin kisi roz' is a treat to the ears and deserved better picturisation, that's my only complain. 'Ae Dil Zara' and 'Jahan se Chale' two songs with the same meter and the same tune, past and present, hit a raw nerve and brings a tear or two to the eye. Neeraj Pandey excels as a storyteller and a director. The end left me misty eyed and the tears just won't stop. Please carry a tissue or two as you will need to dab your eyes a few times. Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha is not to be missed.

Ajay and Tabu wanted to spend time together, so they made a movie. What the hell?? What a waste. Great actors and director wasted their talent. So many scenes are just repeated, just to extend the length of the movie. In fact one scene is repeated several times. I thought hindi cinema was getting better. Ajay and Tabu are a great on screen duo but it seems like they decided to work together and the script didn't matter. Neeraj Pandey, Ajay Devgan, Tabu etc everyone has made great movies in the past. This movie is really boring and I wouldn't recommend anyone to watch this movie. Save your time and money guys.

Sometimes, the best movie experiences come when you least expect them. I wasn't planning to watch this film, but thanks to my sister, I found myself in the theatre, ready for an unplanned adventure. From the moment the film started, I was hooked. Despite the initially empty theatre, which made me question my choice, it quickly became clear that this movie was something special. The film masterfully captures every aspect of storytelling-love, suspense, intricate detailing, climactic moments, and even the darker sides of its lead characters. Though I occasionally glanced at my phone, my attention never wavered, a testament to the movie's full engagement. Initially, I thought it might be a one-time watch, but its unique content has the potential to be enjoyed multiple times. A standout performance was delivered by Shantanu Maheshwari as young Krishna. His portrayal was superb, particularly in how he transformed his character in response to tragic events. His range of emotions was palpable, making viewers feel deeply connected to his journey. This role showcased Maheshwari's talent, proving his critics from " Gangubai Kathiawadi" wrong. The supporting cast, including Saiee Manjrekar as young Vaasu and the older versions of Krishna and Vaasu played by Ajay Devgn and Tabu respectively, also delivered strong performances. However, special mention must go to Shantanu Maheshwari. Stepping into the shoes of Ajay Devgn's older Krishna required great determination, and Maheshwari rose to the challenge magnificently. A special note for the rest of the cast: Jimmy Shergill as Abhijeet was outstanding, and the actors playing the three men who attempted to rape Vaasu and met their fate were also great. The jail scenes depicting Krishna's 22-year struggle were well written and performed, especially by Shantanu and Ajay. However, the acting from the lead actresses, Saiee Manjrekar and Tabu, felt somewhat forced at times. This review is for those who decide to watch movies based solely on reviews. While reviews can offer insight, they sometimes lead to overlooked gems. Great films like "Kaante," "Kasoor," and "Thakshak" were unfairly judged based on reviews. So, I urge you to watch this movie before forming an opinion. The hard work and dedication behind it deserve your attention. If I had relied on reviews, I might have missed this movie and deeply regretted it, just as I might have with "Maidaan," "Attack," and "Laal Singh Chaddha." Experience it for yourself, and only then will you truly understand its worth.
