I am glad that there seems to be lots of people who enjoyed this. I didn't.
Few funny jokes but the film felt heartless and forced. Quite unbalanced. Focus seemed to be more on making "funny" jokes instead of telling a story. Maybe this kind of comedy is just not for me, though I did laugh aloud couple of times.
10 points for Monica Bellucci. -18 for everything else.

Seriously, I've seen some people rate it as low as 3... Those people are clueless.
This movie is a great movie, and even 18 years later so many people cherish it, there's a great casting which makes me somehow nostalgic, seeing so many French actors from my childhood in ONE movie. Even the smaller roles have good actors that are well known.
Since Christian Clavier and Gerard Depardieu aren't the actors anymore Asterix movies just aren't the same anymore, those guys were perfect for those roles, and are some of the greatest French actors in my opinion.
The only downside would be if someone had to see it in another language than french, which would make it difficult for all the jokes.
That's the kind of movie I'll never be tired to rewatch, I had it on vhs growing up and I kept it just as a souvenir of my childhood.

The (dying) sheep in the beginning of the film really p***ed me off. It wasn't funny, it wasn't nice - it was cruel. And I didn't expect to find that on this kind of films (comedy that is). I don't know why they've put that kind of scene - it was TOTALLY unnecessary and it ruined my expectations in the beginning. That's probably the only reason why I didn't like film so much. Overall the film was good. French have extremely good sense of humor, but here, humor was pretty americanized, and it didn't shine.
The first Asterix movie was better (as a whole).

I watched the version with pathetic American over-dubs, maybe this made it much worse, but from what I could make out the film was pretty bad anyway. It seemed low budget. The visuals reminded me of a second rate TV movie, random white dog substituted for Dogmatix, embarrassing 60's BBC costumes, etc. Mainly though, I feel like the characters in the movie did not behave anything like the characters in the comic, and as a result I never felt willing to even try to forgive the poor look of the film. It is always going to be hard to capture the feel of the comics in a film without using animation, and I didn't feel this attempt was worth it ultimately.

I rate this movie 1 out of 10, the first movie Astérix et Obélix contre César was perfect.
I was very disappointed when i first watched this movie, some of the scenes directly ruins the movie, maybe due to the new director.
One of the scenes is just a screen that seys "this scene is to violent to be shown", or something like that. It was a combat scene, apparently the director found it fun.
I would love to see more asterix movies with real actors, but just not like this, my suggestion to the director would be (keep it serius but fun, and don't interrupt the movie with nonsens)

When this film came out in 2002 i was just a kid, and it was my favorite movie of all time. Soon after, i got it on both VCR and DVD. I probably literally knew all the dialogues by heart. So why when I watched it today, 9 years later, it seemed like an unwanted chore? I have no idea. Either the movie didn't age well, or I didn't. It's a different kind of a movie that the last years got us used to - it's more of a compilation of jokes with barely any plot. The bad thing is, many of the jokes are barely funny, or just filler scenes. In one scene we see a major rebellion of the workers, but it doesn't actually bring anything to the movie other than a lame phone joke and several minutes of air time. When added up, the actual plot barely lasts 20 minutes, and other than that, we're treated to an hour of scenes with no meaning and no consequence.
I remembered it as a brilliant movie, yet i found it to be much worse than expected.

Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra Written and Directed by Alain Chabat. Astérix and Obélix go to Egypt to help architect Numérobis who is building a palace for Cleopatra. This movie is ok but I expect more to laugh. Animations are much better than this. Actors who performed Asterix and Obelix are ok but Panoramix(Claude Rich) is not delivering good performance. Visual effects should be improved when comes to practical visual effects they did a decent job. The pace is off sometimes. I liked to see more character development in sub-characters. If you are a fan of Asterix & Obelix you will enjoy others not sure.

What was supposed to be a big sequel fails, despite Jamel's presence, which was much appreciated. The jokes are too repetitive, and mostly overdone (especially the Name Joke). Another down point is its duration. Being too long. Comedies should not be over 90minutes, especially not if the script doesn't hold more then a handfull of gags. Despite a lot of negative points in the movie, the actors did a good job, and it was a fun evening out. But definitely not something I'd do two times. Not even when it's out on video.

Saw this in French, with English subtitles. I can't honestly say how I would have liked it without knowing the book, but I was brought up on Asterix and am doing the same with my kids. The movie was rendered with a lovely comic-book sort of fel in sets and costumes, and the screenplay was very faithful to the story, with a few added characters or gender-transferred ones to (gently) sex it up a bit. However, none of that detracted from the story, and a few added puns (Brucewillix), sight gags (Darth Centurion)and asides (...a rock, a cliff, a peninsula..." from Depardieu, who has also played Cyrano), fit well and don't detract from the comic-book feel of the story. A fun afternoon at the movie with my family.
