Caught a screening of Assimilate in LA this week and was totally blown away by it. Really fun, creepy, and inventive update on the Body Snatchers theme. The young leads (from Super 8, Halloween and The Thinning) are all talented and understand the genre, but there's surprising depth in the performances. The low-key (and low budget) effects mostly work well and don't get in the way of the story, and there is a sequence involving a mobile home/trailer (we're in small town America, after all) that practically makes the whole thing worth watching. Definitely worth the fast-moving hour and a half runtime.

I love movies and I take it personal when a potentially good movie gets destroyed by lazy writing directing. I can live with saving money on low level actors but when they are given such a ridiculous dialogue and action sequences it makes them look even worse. If you r saving money on actors then spent on good writers and a good director. Iam thinking the scenes are shot independently and these directors have no vision for the overall movie. There are so many things wrong with movie it would take pages to point out. But the worse was for sure the barn scene and the runner up leaving poor Joey alone with the aliens. I laughed when the kid left him in the attic, but I gave him pass as he could be panicked. But the second time and third time??? They couldn't come up a reason for Joey to come with them? "Hey joey lets go get some ice cream" wink. Instead they wait all day to try and save him. And You know it, conveniently the aliens waited for the end to try convert him. I know writing and directing are not easy but in grade school my friends and I put better movies together in my back yard. Please Hollywood less focus on politics and more on better movie making!

I dont understand the low rating.. theres one from a person who watched a trailer . how do you rate a movie from a trailer?? anyway, this is an awesome some take on a theme. that yes has been done before. but.... its better. im not going to spoil the movie but... just watch till the end. they left an excellent opening for a sequel... and i hope there is one. its kinda like invasion of the body snatchers with a dash of 28 days later. the actors did a fantastic job representing their characters. the movie itself is well written, well thought out. in my opinion, its scifi with a ladle sized helping of vintage 50s -60s style horror movies ( creature feature with Dr. Paul Bearer) suspense. its really good movie... you dont like it well... turn it off. i personally hope there will be a sequel.

As per usual the cast and crew blow up the ratings Spoiler: it sucks

This movie start with a girl bite by something, and suddenly a stranger trying to break in her house to kill her! As turnout, this movie is about a spider look alike alien creature biting people to clone them and kill them to take over the world! Entire film really very slow! Keep showing us, Zach and Randy making video with their camera! Bored to freaking death! Most intense scene is, a bunch of clone people trying to flip over Deputy Josh house! Randy and Deputy Josh killed in this scene! At the end, Zach and Kayla went to a cable company to upload their video for getting help! Clone of themselves chasing them and they use the carbon dioxide extinguisher to spread both of the clone, and both the clone pass out after that! Zach and Kayla found Joey at the cabin and knowing actually entire world already taken by alien! At very last, some people replying their video in the comment section! Don't expect intense fighting scene! Completely wasting my precious time to watch!

I usually hate zombies and the like stuff, but this was a good assimilation of many genres within the mystery genre.. its good acted, a bit dry story, but youll never relax when viewing. the musical score brings you even deeper into the action. wanna see a nice horror sifi action thriller that may be a bit of a sidekick, then the grumpy old man recommends assimilate, and a sequel will come

It's basically Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but it's well done. Acting is good. I liked it since it had that classic teen horror feel to it. They missed a chance or two to make things truly horrific, but in general it was a good watch.

Complete rip off of Body Snatchers, and that was a better film. Only the two main boys were decent actors, the rest of the cast were awful. I actually really did like the very end scene, but mainly it was a snooze fest.

I think a lot of the other reviews are looking at how this is like the 6th time this type of movie has been remade. It is the 5th or 6th time, but it is actually pretty good. They should have done more character building, because you really don't get too attached to most of the characters. I wish they would have used Cam Gigandet more in this movie, I think he was the best part of it. If you have seen one Invasion of the Body Snatchers movie, you have seen this one, but this one does have a few things different and I liked the twist at the end. If you enjoy horror movies, you will enjoy this one. It even has a little bit of found footage stuff in it, which I personally like.
