Arbitrage had everything going for it, until the ending. It must have run out of something; money, or just interest from the writers. The ending just ended; no explanation of the what, who, where or when. You just looked at the screen and thought, it looks like the writers, producers or anyone else of importance just said, I'm tired of playing this game, let's do something els......LOOK A SQUIRREL!

I love it when I see a movie that I was expecting to be just OK, and turns out to be a WOW, now that's entertainment. Look, I watch movies primarily for entertainment and write my reviews not to tell the reader what the movie is about, but rather to tell the reader my opinion of the movie and whether it's worth viewing or not. In this case the opinion is absolutely YES, see this movie. This drama has an exceptional story, brilliant acting, and emotional suspense. Richard Gere turns in an outstanding Oscar worthy portrayal. The supporting cast is equally good and makes this movie completely believable and possible. Here's the bottom line on this one, watch it, rent it, see it, own it, do any or all of the above because this movie is a winner.

It is always nice to get out while you are on top, before you are caught with your finger in the pie. This is what a dishonest, cheating Robert Miller (Richard Gere) is attempting to do. This is a semi-crime drama that comes at you rather fast with no time for character build up. Robert Miller is unlikeable, but the film doesn't build character for anyone else. I found myself rooting for minor characters who are more honest than Miller, but not puritanical. Brit Marling as the overly smart daughter played a convincing role, but Susan Sarandon as the wife did not have the lines she needed to excel. The individual scene dialouge was predictable. The film is more of a crime drama with the financial empire and deals being part of the background dealings setting up Gere's character. Might be worth watching once. A film you will forget an hour after you have seen it. Not a keeper. Parental Guide: F-bombs, brief sex, no nudity

Wonderful movie, get my attention in the first 15 minutes. Taken from a billionaires' point view, introduce to the situation of the supreme rich guy, his business, and family. Very complicated and attractive epistasis. I see Miller's greedy, selfish and badly cheating both in marriage and business finessed; but Miller is also very charming with his wisdom, courage, and family loving heart. It is complicated to give an answer if he is a good or bad, human just complex. I was totally captivated when I watched this movie, this is not an action movie, but it just drives you into the screen. Miller is unfaithful to his wife for sure. Yet I don't like his "innocent" wife either, in the close end, the wife found out his accident died secret lover, she wanted a divorce and leave nothing to Miller, she said it is her price - to lie. I think she has more story from the screen, maybe she knew Miller's love affair much earlier, but she is calm in order to be the billionaire's wife.

A thrilling production following a not so uncommon tale of wide spread dissembling. Oddly, a 'set-up' in the Police department allows a much bigger set of crimes to get by. Not one character shows any conscience for what they are part of - death by dangerous driving, fraud, financial irregularities, bribery and all the other corruptions. Mr Big's daughter gets a rude awakening but even she falls in line continuing the pretences that the grinning bad guy has perpetrated. Fabulous believable script occasionally spoilt by continuity slip-ups in filming. Background music suited to settings but not quite managed right in the cut. A decent, entertaining but perhaps too abruptly terminated story worth a viewing.

This is a glitzy tale of Robert Miller (Gere) one of the "biggest swinging d****" on Wall Street. Though in late middle age he still has the obligatory mistress, beautiful family and an investment fund that he is trying to sell to another "bsd." The plot seems so pedestrian that I was just about to walk out when the plot took a slight change of direction. To tell you more would ruin it for anyone intending to see this flick, but even though I decided to tough it out, I cannot honestly recommend seeing this in the theater. It can easily be put off until cable or the video store gets it. Gere as usual is great. Sarandon is nothing special in a very pedestrian role. Brit Marling seems above average as Gere's daughter and co-worker and Stuart Margolin who I have not seen since The Rockford Files is very good as Gere's attorney. If you would like to see another movie about how the other half live and why they don't deserve it, this is your opportunity.
