Another World

My first review I believe... Due to severe life changing events for the past 18 months I have been watching a large number of movies and TV series. I do not consider myself an expert nor do I profess to know the names of all the actors and directors; neither do I have any favourite actors or directors. However, very quickly after starting to watch this film (English guy) did I understand that this was a very low budget movie and the Colonel Carl McCrystal is pretty awful. The script, that anyone who is a fan of zombie flicks, as I am, will have seen and heard this all before. To be honest, 20 minutes was enough for me. The narration at the start and the first 5 minutes where 2 people need to sit and talk to each other to explain what has happened so that the poor, bored already audience have an inkling of what's going on should have been a hint....LEAVE ASAP.

I had read the reviews when the movie was released and looked forward to seeing it online (I never go to theaters anymore). I knew the plot outline so I was not surprised that the protagonist emerged into an empty city. HOWEVER, the constant attacks by groups of infected did surprise me. I like logic in plot development, no matter the genre, and what I found illogical and annoying was that the infected were not attacking one another. After all, they had a virus which gave them uncontrollable rage. This virus should have been directed at everyone and everything. I expect decomposing bodies all over the place, but perhaps the budget did not permit it.

After reading some of the reviews I anticipated watching this movie with a sense of dread. I was very pleasantly surprised. It's not your usual x-box style kill everything in sight blood and guts, pass out from boredom zombie type movie. It's not really a zombie movie. The pace was good. Maybe a tad fast. 2 hours would have made it better. The problem with these movies is they try and fit a lot into a short period of time. Inevitable corners are going to be cut to get to the punchline. The storyline was plausible. If you have seen the trailer. You definitely have not seen the movie! Some reviewers try and spot mistakes and errors in the movie or inconsistencies. All movies have this. So what? If it doesn't really affect the story what do I care. It's not an exam.

This film is about a virus, military virus that makes the infected person mad with extreme rage and hungry for blood. Like in "28 days later" one outbreak caused entire world dead or evacuated leaving behind a blood- thirsty infected population and a handful of solitary normal persons. Civilization came to a halt, society got destroyed while those limited survivors fight for existence among frequent attack by the vicious victims. There are five characters, trying to survive constant attacks by the infected. each one of them represents in some way a different aspect of human existence, a different world-view, but most important, a different moral view about the world and his/her place in it. I vote yes, give it a chance

Another World focuses primarily on 5 characters and Narrator, which are named as Colonel, Wizard, Doctor ,Daughter and Mouser. These people are the only ones we see who are surviving the infected. Each one is supposed to represent an aspect of humanity. So for example we have the Doctor who is love, compassion and justice. Whilst the Colonel is a professional soldier, a symbol of power and dominance. This intention can be felt throughout its entirety, as there are many philosophical debates on the meaning of life between the characters. Furthermore, it would seem that with each new chapter it would come with an excerpt from the book Genesis. There is a constant moving threat and it is relentless. There are plenty of explosions and rapid gunfire to keep your attention and in fairness the film did have a hold on me.

I used to love this genre and in the past years couldn't find new ideas and fresh script. another world did it for me. instead of the zombies attacking, here its the other way around meaning intense action and new way of thinking. watch it if you are a fan of this genre. I loved the way the group attacks the zombies. I love that there are no names to the characters. I loved the biblical aspect of the film. Its not Brilliant film and not the best i saw in the genre - like 28 days later - but its way on the top for me. actually the zombies or infected like they call it behave just like they do in 28 days later and even so its acting like 28 days later, i was happy to see fast zombies again.

I give this a solid 7 out of 10 in the category of b zombie films...in fact it is slightly better than a B film. The plot and story are decent, the acting gets better as you go also...so give it a chance. The first 15 minutes of the film almost made me think it was going to be terrible....but if you hang on a little longer it's worth it. The film covers serious topics and interesting ones like if you murder 20 people they call you a serial killer, but if you do it in a military uniform you are a hero. Bottom line, great flick if you like zombie genre. Watch this if you are a genre fan, if you aren't it may not be your bag. The shots are sometimes shaky cam, and sometimes not.

3 scenes in I already knew this would be bad and not in a good way. All the BS is there,most scenes in darkness,shaky cam, people covered in some blood and not even convincing make up. Worse was English people trying to talk American which makes it all laughable and ridiculous. I did not finish it because when the beginning is that lame it is close to unlikely that it will get any better. Most expensive must have been the poster because that looked decent enough for me to start to watch it. Do yourself a favor and skip this one. It is far worse than the average B-flick out there. Really,really,really. Do not watch this. EVER!.

Utopia film festival in Israel, theater was full. i was excited to watch the first Israeli film in English and in a genre never been done before. It's an indie film made for a humble $1M US. Director made the most of his funds and created a tightly wound, philosophical, post-apocalyptic film about not zombies - about a virus - but more important than that, a film about who is to blame for the deadly and terrifying situation. The film stars Susanne Gschwendter, who also stars as Queen Ralia in ABC's upcoming The Quest. And Carl McCrystal from 007. Watch it and remember its an indie film so be gentle with it when you compare to a blockbuster movie :)
