I only gave this horrible movie a 1 because you can't post a review with a negative ZERO!
This is absolutely the WORST movie I have ever seen!! Kathleen Turner is a big a Greyhound bus, and the rest of the cast are a bunch of unknowns who should STAY that way!! Even the theme and background music
was HORRIBLE!! Warning to all, scroll past this celluloid
feces FAST!!

It wasn't a funny movie, and the romance was not existent, but even if this wasn't supposed to be a romantic film, it wasn't anything else!
Forced myself to watch through the end, but was very disappointed. The only thing left for me to think at that point was that I couldn't believe some very good actors agreed to participate in this film.
Do not waste your time.

Supposed to be a quirky, romantic kind of comedy about a dysfunctional family attending a wedding.
Rule of thumb for a movie is to have one or two likable characters. So the audience can relate or connect to for an hour and a half.
This was not even close. Acting was fine, but the characters were atrocious. Spoiled, selfish, not funny, over the top and unrealistic. All completely self absorbed.
I didn't care about any of the characters, not even a little bit of pity towards any of them.
Pretty good cast completely wasted with this very badly written film.
Yikes.

THEY certainly are. And not getting enough of Montreal to make it worth watching any more.
I did rate it higher than a lot of people because there are some gems, but not worth my time right now. I have a good book waiting for me.
Do think it would have been a bit better sans the Carrie actress. She ruined Mad Men for me, so .................. I am NOT a fan.

A doppled canvas of characters and motivations make this a funny story but less than a funny movie. It is hard to follow and difficult to relate to the leads. I really wanted to like Kathleen Turner but she and Frances Fisher are both a bit less than the stars they once were. I found myself thinking about my shopping list during the touching moments where I should be touched. The stars are really Jessica Pare as Carrie the off the grid artist sister and Wallace Shawn as the platonic date for Barbara. Also a shout out to the character of Q who could have bumped the interest up a notch if given more dialogue.

In most wedding comedies, there is a lengthy build-up and a big payoff to meeting and getting to know the in-laws of the wedding couple. But exactly like the title suggests, this film introduces another kind of wedding with an unsavory set of relationships among the in-laws that dates back many years. Instead of "let's get to know" the in-laws in the literal sense, the film is about "let's get to know" the in-laws in the biblical sense!
The film is difficult to wade through due to the incessant flashbacks where we learn about the coupling of the characters that has occurred in the past. The flashbacks are so poorly conceived that it is often difficult to know whether the action unfolding on the screen is in the past or present.
The various relationships include a lesbian coupling between the two mothers and a heterosexual coupling between the bride and the brother of the groom. It may not be an exaggeration to describe this film "comedy" as an exploration of incest. Throughout the film, there is an "icky" feeling to the character interactions, and one is constantly asking oneself what actually are the relationships.
There is one line in the film that offers a good summation of this creepy set of people: "everyone suffers from failed potential." But this evaluation does not go far enough in acknowledging that these losers never had much potential to begin with: a failed actor/rapper hitting on his brother's fiancé who was his former lover, an aspiring disk jockey sponging off of his girlfriend, a dirty old man flirting with a young Latina, a creepy chap jumping into the hotel's hot tube in the *, a high-strung, obese matriarch bossing her kids around.
By the time the wedding couple is finally united in holy matrimony under the chuppah, the audience is relieved to be out of the hotel, out of Montréal, and out of the disgusting lives of the Berkman clan.

An ensemble cast of friends and family meet in Montreal for a wedding. I thought the cinematography of the city was sublime, but, unfortunately it might have been the best part of this movie.
There was an occasional chuckle here but for the most part the comedy, which is often crude, awkward, and even mean-spirited, was just plain flat and ineffective, in my opionion. The strong cast just can't save this one.
Overall, I would say save yourself the pain and pass on this one.

Wow! I was woefully disappointed in this movie. Pointlessly vulgarity at every turn. I couldn't take it & had to turn it off.
