SPOILER ALERT!!! The mythology and science of exorcism was well researched in the making of this film. From the opening scene depicting a common African tribal exorcism practice (which is often and easily faked) straight to the basic "faith vs fact" argument, then to an authentic paranormal research procedure, a LOT of information was given and was portrayed very well. I say this as a life long student of world religions. As a connoisseur of gory, crazy B flicks...PEOPLE...ITS a B FLICK!!! That said, two points were deducted first for the horrendous, repetitive, too loud...can we even call it music??? Even for what it is, that was just TERRIBLE and a constant distraction from... The second point. As generally well acted as it is (for a B flick) there are too many holes in the plotline, too many extended dialogues and too much time between any actual action that, in my opinion, even crossed too many lines for even a B... So C+, whether you watch it for the crash course in exorcism or the just the typical gore fest fun, its a decent waste of 90 minutes.

This movie IS A TOTAL waste of time and electricity..... This has got to be the WORST movie I have ever seen..... I love the way the lead character is dressed as if she is there for a job interview with her maroon pant suit and four inch platforms. The demon is not even scary. More laughable than anything. I should have known by the opening scene this would suck. I would rather watch concrete set. It does not even deserve one star. Too bad I can not leave "zero". Do not bother wasting your time a like I did. Truly sucks I have wasted time I will never get back. May as well play Mahjong on my phone......

This movie was borderline unwatchable thanks to the lead actress' inability to act. The whole film felt like a high school production. The demons were laughable to the point of being downright silly. Overall disappointing and not even worth a watch.

Altho I enjoyed the opening of the movie, the BOSS living the wild life with his assistant, the rest of it was bad. Just bad. 3/10

This was the biggest nonsense I ever saw. The only thing that was nice was at the beginning his secretary was on the upper end of the sexy scale. Otherwise it's totally incoherent even for a "possession" film.

The background music! The ghostly effects! The storyline! Everything is bad! This movie is a waste of time other than for the lead actress who is hot!

Okay, I really gave this movie the benefit of the doubt but I just didn't know where it was headed the entire time. The music is overly distracting and in some cases unnecessary.

The jumpscares are pretty scary and up to par, they just get silenced when the music is playing because it's pretty loud.

As a free movie for a lazy afternoon, this movie wasn't atrocious. It was not, however, terrific. I was a bit turned off by the sex scene to open the movie (why do directors feel compelled to open with such a scene!), but because it actually had something to do with the plot, I ignored it as I got coffee and prepared to watch the movie. There was a decent uptick in quality after that point. The plot did not, however, make a lot of sense once Georgette got to the building. The movie seemed to want to be "1408," without the budget, cast, or quality of script. However, for what it was, "American Exorcist" had a few good scenes and concepts. I wouldn't spend a lot of money renting it, maybe not even from Red Box, but it's not a bad way to waste a bit of time if you have nothing better to do. Minor Spoiler The automatic writing scene is pretty intense. It definitely created an aura of tension that had not existed previously, even after the failed exorcism that introduced Georgette and her sister. In my opinion, it was the best scene of the movie.
