I had hopes for this one. It had good marketing and a lot of fake reviews it seems.
The acting was okay for a low budget. The movie was very predictable. I can't say there was anything new other than the ending which kind of fell flat. The sound work was well done, the camera work not so much. If shadows work into your story make sure the camera guy's shadow isn't in the shots.
I'd skip this one if I were someone reading the reviews. It offers not much new and it is really, painfully slow moving too.

After watching the recent insidious I wasn't too excited to watch a new horror film. The trailer for this film intrigued me and made me interested to see what this film was all about. I am very pleased that I have done so! I think the best part of this film was the suspenseful build up that they were able to accomplish. The fact that the budget for this film was so low, and the film looks so good, made me very pleased! I definitely think some of the reviews I saw on here are inaccurate and makes me wonder if they watched the same film I did. I am excited to see a sequel to this film! I also hope it comes out on Blu-ray so I can add it to my collection.

I don't often write reviews but this film is so poorly acted and written that Im trying to save as many people as possible from suffering the same 2 hour of bordem.
Just 1 horror cliche after another. Half the film didn't even make sense.
Avoid at all costs

I'll begin by saying that the comparison to The Exorcist is very well-deserved. Both films focus on building a story instead of cheap jump scares. Both they also create characters that many in the audience will develop an attachment to. However, ACTD succeeds in areas where Exorcist did not. The Director's Cut will have even more character development, but the theatrical cut did avoid any dull filler. The pace keeps moving at a steady pace. Variety in said pace would have been more enjoyable. But the scenes were so tight-knit together that it kept me interested. The Exorcist gained its cult status mostly on the shock value of the script and effects. But it wasn't that great of a film.
Along Came the Devil is not without its fair share of shortcomings. What directorial debut isn't? Most of these are cheapened areas in effects. One of the most notable is the flashback scene with Tanya and Sarah. While Sarah is having her emotional, possession-infused breakdown, her face briefly turns grey in order to portray the evil spirit. Ehhh. The apparent lack of originality stands out in comparison with the other effects throughout the film. Another odd scene showed Ashley tossing and turning in her sleep. The fast-and-slow lapse felt disjointed from everything else leading up to it and proceeding it. Overall, the film partly satisfied but left me wanting much more from the story and the characters. The ending was abrupt and unexpected, which was very much appreciated. But I was a little disappointed because it showed no evidence of a possible sequel. I had to ask the filmmakers to confirm whether there would be one (they said yes!).
The cast was excellent and gelled very well together. Sydney Sweeney gave an excellent performance with very convincing, non-generated possession techniques reminiscent of The Exorcism of Emily Rose. The lackluster priest was the perfect character for Bruce Davison. I loved how we followed Ashley's haunting and possession with creepy shadow-and-generated effects. None of them were outright frightening, but that worked in the film's favor. The biggest positive surprise was the dialogue. Typically, horror films are marred with crappy dialogue or lame one-liners. The physical and verbal interaction of the characters felt natural and not forced at all. I was shocked to see how low of a score it received from other reviewers. I probably enjoyed it much more than other filmgoers. But as a horror fanatic, I have seen many worse films made with higher budgets. Anything lower than a six-star rating is a crime. I gave it such a high rating because ACTD didn't really fall short in many aspects. The film stayed within its set boundaries. I'll be eagerly awaiting the Director's Cut and the eventual sequel.

This was a good movie, until the last third, and then it became a poor version of The Exorcist with a few twists. Theologically, it is totally wrong and shows the powerlessness of the Christians involved. Jesus cast demons out of people quite easily, by simply telling them to come out. Should we not be able to do exactly the same? One would think so, but this director thought otherwise. If you like typical possession flicks, see this one. If you've had enough of them, maybe watch Pyewacket. It's about demons, too, but not possession--more about demonic trickery. This one gets two stars for fair-to-middlin' acting.

Ok so first of all I love horror,I've seen way too many horror movies and I know all the cliches.
Now,the movie has some amazing shots and creepy moments so it's not all jump scares like most of the mediocre movies today.
The first hour was really good and yes the rest of the movie does fall off a bit but is not horrible.
I believe that if they went a different route instead of possession it would've been better but they had a vision and a message imo like "good does not always win, evil can win as well "
I didn't mind the acting,it's not bad like a lot of people say.
I liked it,the cinematography was great and the story+ending interesting.
Worth a watch

Good make up. Dot. The level of acting is doubtful and the story is a copy from the excorsist.
