We've come along way in more ways than one. I would've love to see something a bit more original with this talented cast but not oh well. We saw this in Antebellum with Janelle Monae and by the way did a phenomenal job. Anyway if you looking for something to pass the time it's a decent movie . I'm just a retired guy that watches way too many movies .

Alice (Keke Palmer)is a slave on a plantation in Georgia. After an altercation with the master, she manages to run away and suddenly we discover the film is a rip off of "The Village" who had "Alice" as its main character too. The production seemed to suffer from direction and message. Getting direction from Pam Grier movies leaves much to be desired. Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.

The premise ain't based on anything true at all. The trailer shows every single plot point and the conclusion! I was SO not going to watch this but then did! Oops. Very well made all around, except the minor point of the story; which is ridiculous. This, if anything, felt like someone got the wrong idea from that dumb Tarantino nazi film and decided to apply fantasy revenge stories to American slavery. Aspects were enjoyable for sure. As I said, it's very well made and some solid acting. But there's tons of silly moments that grab you by the throat and pull you out of the story in the most jarring way. The film never convinces you that this was real or even possibly real. Maybe this revenge fantasy stuff works on some people. If you're one of them, go for it! If not, avoid at all costs.

If this "hi-concept" Hollywood lark were any more woke, the DVD would come with a free rooster. Allegedly "inspired" by a true story (?), the trick to appreciating this one is to skip the first 30 mins (trust me!) and just jump in, try it out. It grows on you. Keke Palmer, who looks and talks a lot like the current lead in Star Trek Discovery, goes above and beyond the call of duty here, trying to sell a story with plot holes big enough to absorb a Dwarf Star. That said, there is an underlying emotional charge to this odd tale that actually deserves an audience. And the retro vibe revisiting the 70s (which honestly may be lost on current filmgoers) actually works more often than it fails.

Honestly I have to say I'm shocked by how atrociously low this movie is being rated. The acting in the movie was really good and the story was very interesting. Truly don't see why this is being rated so poorly. Keke her performance was phenomenal in this! Definitely recommend watching it. And for all the people reviewing this writing annoying things like "based on a true story where??" Maybe you should google things more before you post? A simple search would have led you to multiple articles on this. I'll help you out! Google: "What story is Alice 2022 based on?" Google Mae Louise Walls Miller perhaps? Anyway. Again: great movie, great acting, great story. Nothing else.

Ratings probably come from the fact that there's a majority of audience in cinematography that didn't read more than 1 book in their life and can't follow a story that requires emotional maturity and empathy. Also, probably half of bad ratings come from racists.

Right, well the 2022 drama "Alice" starts off with 'inspired by true events'. Yeah, sure. I would like to know in what alternate part of the multiverse did writer and director Krystin Ver Linden believe that this was an actual thing. Sure, if it was the slavery part with the white plantation owner part that was based on true events, then I could buy into it. But if it was the actual story here, then no. Just no. Well, I will give writer and director Krystin Ver Linden points for creativity, despite the fact that the whole concept of the storyline was just ludicrous beyond belief. But yeah, the movie made for adequate entertainment, if you could get past how downright stupid the storyline concept actually is. Of all the people participating in this movie, I was familiar with only two actors, and that was Jonny Lee Miller and Gaius Charles. It should be said, though, that the acting performances in the movie were good, despite of the storyline being quite far out there. "Alice" is not a movie that made a particular huge splash upon its arrival, nor is it a movie that I will taking along with me and think about come next week. This is the type of movie that you watch once, should you happen to stumble upon the movie, and then never return to watch it a second time. Then again, the storyline just doesn't have enough proper contents to it to support more than just a single viewing. This 2022 movie is a strange hybrid between an archetypical slavery story mixed with Blaxploitation. A very strange combination actually, if you ask me. My rating of "Alice" lands on a four out of ten stars.

This movie is what it is. I'm not sure you can call it good because it either needed more time to develop or less time spent developing. To anyone that thinks this is an "alternate reality" piece though, this kind of thing happened. Maybe not EXACTLY this kind of thing but black people in the deep south were denied freedom well into the 20th century (as late as 1963). Don't believe me, google Mae Louise Walls Miller, A little research might help you appreciate the premise more and perhaps break away from the THIS DOESN'T FIT IN WITH MY WORLD VIEW SO I AM GOING TO THROW MUD AT IT crowd. Just sayin'....
