Very Original Idea, and directed with tranquility and patience. Deserves a sequel in the same terms. The actors presents jobs just right. The several explanation is plausible in all aspects. Many movies have money however the script are poor. This does not happen with this movie. The production deserves be continued. An sequence be welcome for presents the other aspects of the creatures and form to recover the people missing. The best perfumes are in the short packaging, therefore, I bilieve that the more objective in my ideas better. Therefore no need to write ten lines to present my opinions about the movie. What can turn this over meaningless words, here is my protest to the IMDb site, as is well presented, my review for any movie can be made through only one word.

Super amateur, slow but without being able to create tension or suspense and extremely bad actors. They try to create a supernatural story, but they never develop anything around that aspect, except for a tricky story of people who disappeared in the locale and some scratchy effects.

The low budget defiantly shows in terms of visual quality. You never get a good look at the monster but the sound effects and pacing of the film are still quite effective. It's small but has big cosmic horror ideas. It's not funny bad at any point but I just with it had a proper budget.

Very nicely done! Acting by the principles is wonderful and compelling. Parker and Bell are both impressive and very touching as the tormented sisters. Bell, especially may be the talent heiress to Kathy Bates. I would like to see her in more high profile roles. The film has a wonderful atmosphere and a well-sustained tension factor. Doug Jones is a definite asset as usual, with his incomparable long, tall, and creepy presence. It's always nice to see that quality indy films are still being made, especially in the horror genre. I especially appreciate how the film brings off sustained creature dread without ever showing us the creature itself. This has become a lost art in cinema since the advent of high tech FX. The unseen is always more scary. I look forward to future works from this crew. They all did a great job on a low budget.

In the beginning there were two sisters. One of them was a runaway drug addict. The other one was pregnant out of wedlock with a man she has no contact with, whilst her husband has been missing for seven years. Ok, so the beginning of this film does NOT prepare you for what you're about to see. It starts of all realistic and the relationship between the sisters is well-established. When the one sister (Courtney Bell) has to sign the Absentia papers, she starts seeing horrible visions of her husband, but this is only just the beginning of the nightmare that unfolds. This is a truly scary and creepy film and I won't spoil the ending. The film is completely unpredictable and things go very wrong after the halfway mark. This is a must-see film. The cast was very good and credible. Notably, I thought Morgan Peter Brown was very good as the disappeared husband.

A creepy, atmospheric horror movie that holds the attention throughout. The characterisation is completely engaging creating vulnerable and interesting protagonists. The plot and the setting deals with our primordial fears of tight and underground spaces. The theme of missing loved ones is dealt with in a realistic and emotionally evoking manner. Yes, there is a part of the film that borders on the ridiculous but not enough to damage the movie as a whole. Absentia is not a jump out of your seat movie, nor is it a gore-fest. However, it is an enjoyable, spooky piece that takes you along for the ride and am sure will be something that will replay the next time I walk through an underground tunnel...

So I want to begin by saying I have no idea what the hype is about this movie. Before I watched it I expected something amazing due to all the 9/10 type reviews on here. Let me tell you I was SADLY disappointed. It is a very interesting slow paced thriller, I will give it that, but man did the ending blow. The whole movie had me intrigued and expecting the slow wait to pay off. No. No it did not in the slightest pay off. It leaves you questioning why you even sat through the whole thing. As a fan of slow paced movies, typically that is all gearing up for some great or at least decent ending. I'm sorry to say this is not a film worth watching.

Lo-fi horror about a woman whose husband went missing seven years before. Just as she finally declares him dead in absentia, strange events start to happen, which seem to be connected to an ominous underpass nearby. This is a pretty effective movie, which has been knocked out on a very low budget. Director Mike Flanagan certainly makes the most of his meagre resources and creates a film with a definite atmosphere and some unusual angles.

With a small budget a good mystery film was created, turning it into a single generic location and making the most of it.
