A definite miss, though the actors try really hard. too hard, in fact.
Frances O'Connor is really cute, but she gets on your nerves after about ten
minutes of non-stop ranting. this is, of course, the director's fault, but finding the proper blame won't save the movie.
Well, I'm a guy and this is CLEARLY a chick-flick, so there you go. It's probably an OK way to pass some free time, but don't go out of your way to see it.

I went to see 'About Adam' last night at the opening of the Cork Film Festival. I thought the script was excellent. The storyline was unique. It was very funny. The actors were top class & overall it was very enjoyable & a boost for Irish films. Well done to all involved.

In "About Adam", Adam wanders into the life of three sisters and seduces them. Outside of driving an XKE and being handsome with some unlikely story about his family being killed in a car wreck we know nothing about him. Such is the shallow character development of this shoddy tale and shamefully silly little comedy which is as inept and it is naive. Passable fodder for the immature.

One more night where there is nothing on tv. Except this stupid channel that every now and then shows a movie worth watching. That night, it was about adam.
The first 20 minutes, i think, is your typical romantic comedy, with nothing special. I felt sleepy, to be honest. But when I saw that the film 'rewinds' to show you things from another point of view I was like wow! I love this thing in a movie. Like 'a la folie...pas du tout' with that girl from amelie.. I think it is a very clever and intriguing film technique.
From that moment on I felt alive!! You get to see facts from different points of view, and understand what each character thinks -that thing with us hearing their thoughts is great- and therefore understand why they do what they do. That was the main part that made me like this movie so much. Then, there was the script, touching and funny, the music that gave the right 'tone' in the scenes, which they were beautifully shot, -like the one with laura in the phone booth with a raindrop look like a teardrop, or is it the other way around?- and with great costumes.
There is a part in the film, where adam explains why he is doing what he is doing. You may or may not understand/accept it. But during the film, you fell some kind of a sympathy for the characters and their actions. And when everything is over, and you got adam looking straight in your eyes with that witty smile, you can't help it but smile back at him.

The reason I say that is because I like the way they give different perspectives of several different scenes as seen by the different characters in the movie. I really like Stewart Townsend (he's one of those adorable people that are charismatic not to mention easy on the eyes). This is definitely NOT a cinematic masterpiece but I don't think it was meant to be either. It was entertaining and THAT's what I liked about it. Well, that and Stewart Townsend but I think I already mentioned that. Didn't sound like many people liked this one but I have to disagree. It's fun, sexy, flirtatious, and comedic all in one movie. Give it a chance and watch it again or for the first time, whichever the case may be.

God, Kate Hudson has the worst Irish accent! Stuart is the only one, I know because he is from Ireland, with a real Irish accent. The accents just kept switching back and forth. First it was British and then it was Irish, yadda, yadda, yadda.
"About Adam" is a cute romantic comedy though. I have to admit it stole my heart for a few seconds. The story is a little odd and sometimes painful to watch, I admit. But if you give it a chance, it isn't so bad. I would give the green light for "About Adam". Especially if you love Stuart Townsend. *drool* Get me a towel! Sorry, sorry. So, if you have some time on your hands, check it out. It's a decent movie.

Oh my. I don't think i've ever felt so insulted as a woman in my life. At the centre of this film, we have the decidedly average looking Adam (Townsend) who, despite being wet, wimpy and rather pathetic, is supposed to be gorgeous. If you forget don't worry, the film will remind you every 30 seconds, complete with the underlying message that if you don't fancy him, there must be something wrong with you. Whether you're male or female. Watch as both men and women reduce themselves to gibbering idiots and lose all self respect over his alleged gorgeousness. Watch as he messes all of them around, plays them against each other and runs roughshod over their emotions, while the film assures you he has the right to. Cringe, at Frances O'Connor's ridiculously over the top neurotic acting, achieving little more than bringing her character across as mentally ill. Worst of all, that's it. You wait for something happen to the redeem the film, but it doesn't. It's not a joke, it really means it. Awful awful awful.
