A Perfect Murder is the perfect example of a great thriller from the 90s. There's a great cast here, a good plot for a thriller and a solid ending to the film with a climax. One of Michael Douglas' best works. It is these films that are not in modern cinema, so A Perfect Murder only gets better over time.

Based on R2 DVD 103min This a is movie that could have been much better, it's loosely based on the Hitchcock movie 'Dial M for Murder' a fact that few will miss towards the end of the movie. After a good start it fails to propel the story or the characters forward. As a 'smart thriller' it fails badly resorting to the classic good v evil format with predictable results. 6/10 worth watch [I like DM movies] but dont pay for it.

Hitchcock's "Dial M for Murder" was a movie to be remembered, but this remake was a disappointment. It had real potential, and would have been great, had they taken advantage of David Suchet's great acting ability, and his character, which was a central character in the original film. But instead, they relegated his character to the background, and then, to and insult to injury, changed the Hitchcock ending from a sizzle, to a fizzle. Worth seeing, but nothing compared to the original.

When I rented this movie, I expected just another Okay thriller...which is exactly what I didn't get. This movie is so boring. They could have cut this movie down to 10 minutes and they still wouldn't have any action. Boring Boring Boring. I would recommend that you don't rent it unless you really want to see for yourself how lame it is. 1 out of 10 If you want to see a good thriller rent "Blood Work", "Murder by Numbers", or "Along Came a Spider"

Just read a story in Reuters(1/25/07) about Muslims being portrayed negatively in Western media, esp. movies, t.v., etc.. David Suchet's portrayal of Mo (Muhammed) in "A Perfect Murder" is just the sort of thing to offset that entirely accurate characterization of Western entertainment: A Muslim immigrant, who becomes a NYPD homicide detective... The series could just be called "Mo". Catchy... Suchet is an actor possessed of immense gravitas (esp in this role). He, famously, played another detective: "Poirot", of Agatha Christie fame. Naturally, the character he would play in the "Mo" series would be almost the direct opposite of Poirot, at least in terms of bearing. But imagining him in the role shouldn't be too tough -- we already have a "A Perfect Murder" which shows he can do it.

I watched the DVD 'making of' where they explain the deal with the kitchen telephone. Clearly it seems unreasonable to get out of the hot tub, but nevertheless the telephone in the kitchen only rings there, as its the maids phone. It would just keep on ringing, without any answering machine to pick it up. Therefore Gwyneth couldn't use any other lines. *SPOILER* One other question, though. Why do the police rule out Douglas as a suspect just because he made a phone call. The guys at the card game would be a much better alibi if it came to that. Gwyneth is saying to the police that she is suspecting Douglas to have hired a man to kill her, but the inspector brushes her off with the comment, that he couldn't have done that, because he was on the phone around 10 o clock... Is it just me that's missing a point here, or did anyone find that a bit odd???

Very fine film that never lets up from the start. A wealthy man learns his wife is cheating and he must have revenge. This leads to his making a death pact with a man who is not as he appears, which creates a world of trouble for both men. Thumbs up.
