Christopher Guest and company, set out again to make another docu-spoof, but however end up with something that provides only a few laughs.
Intentions are good, and there is a story to tell, but the situations that bring up the humour are a little contrived. There are some laugh out moments, but also much of the humour is resorted to cheap gags, and nonsense situations (such as the fate of the bass player in the trio) for just the sake of a shock to get a laugh.
It has its moments, but the film sort of drags for far too long, and its effect doesn't last. The cast certainly has done better. But ya have to love Eugene Levy..

I've seen this movie twice, just in the theaters, and I laughed even more the second time. The jokes are just better than in "Waiting for Guffman," and the characters are much more developed and believable. Though Eugene Levy's Mitch has a somewhat irritating voice, the earnestness in which he plays the part is admirable. The Folksmen have to be my favorite group, and I was severely disappointed to find that Harry Shearer is not in any of the other Guest films. Parker Posey had a small role in this one, but I thought her role in the other films were just plain better. However, Fred Willard and Bob Balaban were incredible. Everyone should see this movie- it really makes you laugh out loud.

Well, the One Line Summary pretty much says it all. This film simply is not funny, not at all. In fact, it's down right boring, which is so disappointing if you're familiar with the other films made by these guys, which were very funny.

From the same acting troupe that brought you " Waiting for Guffman" and "Best in Show" comes this mocumentary about the reunion of some old folk music groups.. Not as funny as the other two films I just mentioned, this one does have it's moments, most of them provided by the always amusing Eugene Levy.. but much of what is here has a been there... done that.. feeling to it.. Christopher Guest really should try to make a different film once in awhile.. GRADE: C

I can't remember the last time I've laughed so hard in the theatre I had tears running down my face, but that was the case last night when I saw this. The familiar (if you've seen Waiting For Guffman and Best in Show) cast are hilarious as always, especially Eugene Levy as Mickey, the confused half of a 60's "romantic" folk duet. I don't want to give away any lines, but the movie is loaded with hysterical ones. (Fred Willard, as usual, gets the best of them.) SEE THIS NOW, before the summer blockbusters push it out of the way. A classic for sure.

A Mighty Wind is the best movie ever made. I love every minute of it. I've seen it 59 times since the 1st of February 2004.
Each film with Christopher Guest keeps on getting better and better, although I doubt anything even he makes could top this. The acting is great. The improvising is so natural and hilarious. The songs could almost be real. There must have been so much effort put into A Mighty Wind.
None of my friends had heard of it, so I made 2 of them watch it. They say they don't like it but when I talk about the movie at school, they laugh when I mention funny lines. I think they are just sick of it 'cos I go on about it 24/7.

As a person who grew up on the 60's and has many 33-LP records of folk singers, I really enjoyed the music in this film. I have not seen any of the other movies Mr. Guest has done, so I am in no position to compare this to them. That said, I very much enjoyed the extra layer of humor and satire on top of the music. It took me back to my high school and college days without the usual pains of nostalgia. The humor of the film was adult enough and cerebral enough to keep me in the here and now (and laughing) and the music was good enough to take me back. A combination of sensations that I can't remember having before, that I liked, and would seek out again. Go - see - enjoy.

This is slower and more soulful than the other Guest ensemble comedies, but this film casts you under such a charming spell. From the music, to the eccentric characters that so accurately capture the folk musicians of the 1960's. A Mighty Wind will make you smile, and also make you laugh pretty hard. Eugene Levy is the standout performance here. Funniest performance, however, belongs to the late Fred Willard. WHA HAAAAPPEN?!?

Many of the persons involved in This Is Spinal Tap, a hilarious pseudo documentary on "Britain's loudest rock band", return 20 years later for this folk music send up. Second City alumni Levy and O'Hara are two of several legendary performers reunited for a special memorial concert. The tongue-in-cheek humor remains firmly in place while some of the broader stuff is dumped. 8/10
