Amid all the criticism of the choice of Jolie as Mariane Pearl, the actual story seems to be forgotten. The movie followed the book very closely. It tells the story as Mrs. Pearl did, showing the investigation and the efforts of all those involved to find Danny. It's not a drama or an action packed movie: its simply one woman's story of how her husband fought and died for what he believed in. Jolie did a fabulous job. Her accent was dead on and she portrayed Mariane's strength and compassion. Her reaction to Danny's death is the most raw display of emotion that I've ever seen in cinema. The only downside was the omission of Asra's pregnancy. I felt that was relevant to the book and the story and should have been included in the book. Bottom line, if you care about the Middle East and the struggle for peace, this is a movie you should go see.

This movie is a very accurate depiction of the times we are currently living in. The depiction of Karachi is very good and it inspires me to do something about the chaos in that city because I'm originally from Karachi. I want to thank the movie makers for being unbiased in this movie. Angelina Jolie was absolutely fantastic in this movie. Also, Irrfan Khan has been in terrific form. This guy is the first Indian actor that actually did such a good job that he could easily pass off as a Pakistani Intelligence guy...it is a tough act to follow. I hope everyone who watches this movie gets inspired to help society deal with extremism.

This is the story of strong wife who fights desperately to find her husband kidnapped by terrorists. It's based on the true story of Danny and Marianne Pearl a married couple of journalists working in Pakistan. Danny is kinapped and terrorists are demanding the liberation of others in exchange for his liberation She moves everyone to action including the Pakistani police, American consulate officials and dedicated friends of hers. The movie is well made in a succession of intertwined scenes and images with frequent flasbacks and flashforwards which go from their first meeting and love moments to the present and current events with much cutting talent and effectiveness keeping your attention always alive. Angelina Jolie does an excellent work in the role of Marianne Pearl with a mixture of sentiment and mighty energy in dealing with that great tragedy.

A sad but true story of terror and courage. Excellent acting by Angelina Jolie.

"It is not a glossy painted Hollywood drama. ..The movie is shot in a way that artfully places the viewer into the chaos of Karachi". Yes yes yes! The photography seemed intense, dark, crowded and even menacing. But the film was about the heartbreak of an individual woman, for goodness sake. Despite the heroic endeavours of the foreign embassy staff, the US military, the entire intelligence community and the Pakistani police, Daniel Pearl was not rescued. There were really important political, ideological and military issues to discuss, but unfortunately most of the story was about whether Mrs Pearl was functioning well or not. I have no problems with the way Jolie handled the role. She is a fine actress. My complaint is that all the really important issues were trivialised by the writers. It may have been an "effective re-telling of a story that is still fresh in the minds of the audience" but film goers don't need complex issues reduced to the personal and the domestic.

I wish I'd liked this more. I expected to but ultimately found it slow moving, choppy and kinda dull. It's been filmed almost like a documentary, recounting the days following the abduction of Marianne Pearl's husband Daniel by terrorists in Pakistan. Angelina Jolie plays Marianne and is just amazing, I was captivated whenever she was on the screen. The scene where she finds out her husbands fate is just brutal, she displays such raw pain. As much as I found this a disappointing, mediocre movie its days later now and I still can't stop thinking about it. Maybe it was better than I realized? I loved the closing scene on the Paris street with her son. 03.17.14
