I enjoyed this movie very much. It's warm, uplifting and moving. It made me feel good and also a little sad in spots. Truly a wonderful little film for little girls (and big ones) to enjoy. I hope you'll watch it.

I just love this film...it has brilliant acting, particularly from liesel matthews who plays the little princess sara crewe and the setting and storyline are faultless. there is a presence throughout the film of something special, and at the end, you are left believing in yourself. a fantastic film that has everything you could ask for in a heart-warming classic.

This remains one of a very few movies to have moved me to tears. Child roles are usually poorly played, but the girls in this movie are truly brilliant meaning you are brought into the world of innocence and imagination that only childrens minds can conjour. Then, you find yourself willing the lead role through her adversity and against her pain. If I had to describe it in one word; magical.

Ignore that post by oleander-3. His opinion is obviously WAY too biased to count at all. Compared to the Shirley Temple version though this is MUCH MUCH better. The greatest thing about this movie is how beautiful it is in general. All the scenery, music, settings and camera work blend together into one incredibly memorable film. I even bought the soundtrack! If you want to see a movie that'll make you feel good inside, watch this! And if you have kids, watch this! By the way, if you don't cry at the end, you're simply not human.

I watched both this and the Shirley Temple version numerous times throughout my childhood, never really comparing the two. Now that I'm older, I've grown quite a distaste for remakes and sequels, and rightfully so! My younger sister rented this and asked me to watch it with her. I didn't remember much of it and was skeptical. I was actually pleasantly surprised. I loved Sara's stories. I think this being a more recent version, there was an opportunity to add effects and bring a more dreamy and mystic storyline to the table. I highly recommend this for children and even teenagers, like me, can enjoy it!

Such a beautiful, lush movie, the director, who made this years "Y tu mama tambien", Alfonso Cuaron creates not just a credible and interesting real world, but an amazing imaginary land that is a treat to view. I really enjoyed this movie, and wish more people would give it a shot and watch it, a truly underrated children's film- we have talking kangaroo films, sequel after sequel of athletic golden retriever movies, this picture is something unique and special. I believe Alfonso Cuaron is going to direct the third installment of the Harry Potter movies, and after the bland, ham-handed direction of Christopher Columbus, I am thrilled to hear that someone that I *know* can bring fantasy to life (with what I am sure was a much smaller budget) will be directing. See this film, if you hate it, e mail me and I will gladly refund your rental fee (you freak of nature ;) thomas_gina@yahoo.com

PLEASE NOTE: In the original 1880 short story "Sarah Crewe, or What Happened at Miss Minchin's" and the 1905 novel "A Little Princess," , THE STORY IS SET ENTIRELY IN INDIA AND LONDON, ENGLAND IN THE 1880S, EVERYONE IS BRITISH EXCEPT RAM DASS & BECKY IS WHITE AND COCKNEY, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, CAPTAIN CREWE DIES OF A LETHAL JUNGLE FEVER AND HIS "DEAR FRIEND" EVENTUALLY FINDS SARAH AFTER A LONG SEARCH AND ADOPTS HER. That duly noted, this movie version is well-directed by the director of the beautiful "Like Water for Chocolate", and it is beautifully filmed. Very good performances by Liesel Matthews, Liam Cunningham and the actress playing Becky the scullery maid. Evocative soundtrack too, by Patrick Doyle. Worth buying both the video and especially the soundtrack on cd. P.S. The Shirley Temple 1935 version gets the story wrong too...

This is truly one of the best movies I have ever seen, and I recommend everyone to see it at LEAST once! The story itself is not that spectacular; a little girl, Sarah, (played by Liesel Matthews) is left alone in a school for girls in New York while her father is fighting for England during the First World War. Having lived a comfortable life in India, she'll learn that the world is not always a fairytale. However, although she finds herself in all kinds of trouble and loneliness, she brings light and hope to everyone around her. The warmth and understanding about the true values in life that comes from her is an eye-opener for us all, and the acting is just superb. Don't forget tissues - you might need it. 10 out of 10!
