First saw this on TV when I was 10 years old & by Christ it scared the living sh*t out of me! So much so, I didn't sleep for an entire night because of it! I then didn't watch it after a while until it came back on TV again. Though I was older, it still scared me! And even now as I'm currently writing this review I find it to be one of the best A Haunting Documentaries I've seen! Unlike the actual TV Series under the same name (sort of), this one has a good grip on you til the end, & even after the credits roll, it never seems to leave you, it's that sinister & chilling! The story is about a family who move from New York to up state Connecticut to treat their son who has cancer so he can be closer to the hospital treating him. The find a house thinking it's the perfect home & so much so can't believe how good it is until... they find the basement which holds clues to the homes past as it being a funeral parlour. But the worst is yet to come as the find it's haunted by demonic spirits who once ran the home as a morchery. The story is based off true events, though names & such were changed. I saw A Haunting in Georgia before this & thought it was pretty creepy, though when this came on straight after, terror hit me! Most notably, the shower scene is one of the most terrifying things I'd ever seen in my life, it still gives me the chills of fear! But the demon & everything else were also pretty scary. The music & narration really added to the film also & gave it a unnerving & spooky undertone! I overall thought this was a terrifying Documentary/Film. I'd give this a 9/10 as it truly was & still is, one of the most chilling & scariest Documentary's ever made!

I think that A Haunting in Connecticut was really spooky and a really great story. I loved it. It's very obvious that this really happened to this family and only continues to prove the existence of life after the physical form dissolves is indeed true. There is no death, people seem to think life and death,...... doesn't exist, birth and death, yes, but life has no opposite. The fact that the family members are narrating through the show, to me, proves the reality of this event. As Human Beings I believe we have the ability to sense honesty in each other. I sense the honesty in this family, you can hear it in their body language and voice. I hope the family doesn't frown on this comment but I think that the whole event was necessary for Paul/Stephen(Steven)? to have had his cancer taken away. That to me is what makes this a great story about a haunting. I think that is why the event happened to them, for Pauls sake. Please try to see the positive in this. I know that not all hauntings look positive, but then again everything happens for a reason, and when the mind looks at an event, it only sees that one event, a small sliver of the big picture/event, and then labels it good or bad, not ever seeing the whole picture and the connectedness of all events,..........one thing happens so that another may happen, etc.. As far as the actors, I think they were excellent! I think that everything came together just as it needed to. Everyone of the actors were a perfect fit for this show, and it really is spooky. It's better than any scary movie I have ever seen, and if a movie is in fact made I can't imagine it being better than this TV show, no way. This is one of my favorite shows I have ever seen. I wish I had a store bought copy of it but have never found it for sale anywhere. My other favorite haunting show is Summerwind, another excellent show that I would rate a 10, but this is my favorite! Thank you for letting me post on your site and have a nice day! :) - Jason(talbertj300zx@yahoo.com)

I saw this recreation on TLC last night and it was as scary if not scarier than a horror movie. The story involves a family that is tormented by a demon and spiritual inhabitants that haunt the house. In 1986 a family of six with the oldest son suffering from terminal cancer move in to a former funeral home in Connecticut. The children are constantly tormented by ghostly experiences, which the parents do not believe in at first. A voice calls out to the oldest son and eventually he confronts the voice; without knowing turns out to be an extremely powerful demon. It isn't mentioned, but it appears that he makes a deal with this demon and as time goes by his cancer resides into remission and spirits seem to leave the children alone. Over the course of time the oldest son drifts apart from the family and begins growing darker. Later on the family takes in their cousin whose family is getting a divorce. The oldest son and his cousin are good friends and he explains to her that he is visited by a man at night that tells him to do things. He keeps a journal of his some of the events of his visits. As more time goes by crucifixes start disappearing from the house and the son grows darker and violent. One night after attacking his cousin he is sent to a mental hospital. As he is carried away he advises the parents that now that he is out of the house it is going to come after all of you. That early morning the demon attacks the parents and the cousin. Eventually the family contacts a pair of demonologist named Edward and Lorraine Warren. Lorraine finds the demon in the basement and advices them that a church-sanctioned exorcism needs to be performed to rid the house of demon and its inhabitants. Researchers are called in and get the proof needed to perform the exorcism which they get more than they need. Then the Catholic Church is called in and the exorcism is successful. The family decides to move out of the house shortly after and later that spring the oldest son is released from the mental hospital and his cancer never returns.

I seen this back a few years ago on TV. I got hooked just by the things that were happening, like the blood on the floor as she mopped. That ghost with the black eyes in the girls room was creepy but that didn't compare to that demon with the red eyes standing on the stairs! That freaked me out so bad. I kept seeing that image in my head when I closed my eyes, I had a hard time sleeping that night. I bought the DVD thinking it was the movie, cause I heard they made a movie out of it, and when I put it on I seen it was that same documentary with that demon that scared the crap outta me. when the part came I looked away. I couldn't see that image again!

"Mom, I just heard a voice down in the basement, calling for Paul." -- Bobby Parker (Tyler Reid) It's questionable when even a historical movie claims to be a "true story," although I'll maintain that a fair recreation of D-Day, for example, does just as much to convey historical context as does reading some historian's second-hand description in a book. The difference is, of course, I'm firmly convinced that D-Day actually happened. I am less convinced of any supernatural nonsense. You've seen it all before. Just like The Amityville Horror and any of its sequels, remakes or imitators, a nice American family moves into a quaint (aren't they always) old house which, not more than 10 minutes later, somebody must suspect is haunted. Usually, it's built over an ancient Native American burial ground; in this case, the house was once a mortuary. The only major difference, if it is, is that in this picture, the family is already preoccupied with morbidity as the oldest son, Kyle (Matt Campbell), is dying from cancer. Not only is Kyle waiting to check out, but so is the film's token exorcist, Father Popescu (Elias Koteas), probably the meekest, whiniest exorcist in movie history. It's not like Max Von Sydow commanding "The power of Christ compels you!"; it's more like, "Hey, if it wouldn't be too much trouble..." I won't indict the technical crew's reliable work, especially production designer Alicia Keywan, who performed similar work in 2007's The Messengers, and the obligatory manifestations every five minutes are all staged creepily enough to make at least half the audience jump in their seats. I wasn't jumping as much as I was squirming because it all seemed so...familiar, despite the novelty of having Academy Award-nominated actress Virginia Madsen as the harried mom. At least director Peter Cornwell does what he can to maintain some plausibility. My objection to these things is not the fact that I just flat-out don't believe in the supernatural. I don't believe in space wizards with laser swords, either, but I can, briefly, if a movie requires me to accept that as its premise. However, my ability willingly to suspend disbelief flags when presented with the scenario of little kids playing hide and seek with their babysitting aunt and hiding in the darkest corner of the house where an animated corpse materializes. The next scene is fairly normal, which it wouldn't be. My kids would be so hysterical that such an event would have to be addressed for some scenes afterwards, although it's just as likely that, if it were my kids, it would be the demons screaming in terror. Later, the teenage aunt, after a similar encounter with demoniac forces, reaches the apparently obligatory cinematic decision, "Well, time to take a shower." Obviously, these people don't watch enough movies. Or maybe I watch too many. Maybe I shouldn't watch these things because I feel like I've seen it all before. Bet you have, too.

this 2002feature length documentary is one scary offering.i haven't seen the 2009 film version yet,so i can't compare the two,but this documentary was sure well done,in my opinion.in the chills department,it rates almost off the charts.there were a few scenes where my blood ran cold.the narrator(who also does the narration for the F.B.I. Files)has the perfect voice for this kind of program.a word of warning.if you watch this late at night, you may have trouble sleeping,as it's much more terrifying than most horror movies, due to a much higher degree of realism,in terms how it looks and how it's shot.that's just my opinion,of course.for me,A Haunting in Connecticut is a 9/10

I went to the gym last week. I flipped on the TV for background noise, with no intention of actually watching TV. This documentary happened to be on. I overheard some of the dialouge during my first set. It made me curious, so I started watching a bit. 45 min later, and with 5 other people who had joined me, we had all abandoned our work-outs. We were glued to the TV. I'm not a fan of horror or suspense movies. I am generally a skeptic about the supernatural. I do not believe in God. However, something about this show really, really got to me (and the 5 other people at the gym!). It was the most well done, and scariest account of a co-called haunting that I have ever come across.

I made the mistake of seeing this at night, cause after I saw it, I did not sleep at all, I stayed up all night watching t.v. It took a lot to recover from this scary Documentary. Anyway, seeing that this is just an ordinary 3 story house with low rent, beautiful furnishings, large kitchen, 2 upstairs bed rooms, 2 upstairs bathrooms, a larger living room, and a 2 room basement. I thought, nothing can be too scary in this house, but boy was I wrong. It scared me to death, I couldn't help but feel sorry for those living in the house. Seeing that ghost calling Paul's name was scary, but the worst parts were seeing him trap Karen in the shower, drive a truck and almost crushing Ed to death, and standing on the stairs giving a camera man a head on attack. At that moment, I just wanted to scream. Seeing that ghost's face just from and then seeing his mouth smirk, and then turn into a fireball, was enough to knock me out of my chair. After seeing this, I saw The Shining, and The Shining is no where near as scary as this terrifying documentary. I do not recommend watching this, unless you want the living daylights scared out of you. Seeing this haunted me for some time. I am now over it, but I know that I will never see this documentary again. One watch was enough. Do Not Watch This, Unless You Are Willing To See The Shining, The Haunting, and be willing to get scared to the death, cause this documentary will haunt you for some time.
