A film that knows what it wants to be but doesn't know how to effectively achieve it.
The psychotic characters act as though they really want you to know how psychotic they are, which makes them feel inauthentic. I don't remember anything about any of the protagonists. None of the violence has any impact due the thinness of the characters and the tame nature of the gore. A misguided effort, even the name takes away from the suspense because we already know what to expect. This could have been used to toy with the audiences expectations and maybe even have added some real tension but nay.
It didn't do it for me but I believe every film has an audience. Recommended for fans of Trespassers (2018), Ditched (2021) and For the Sake of Vicious (2020).

I had never even heard about this 2022 horror movie titled "8 Found Dead" from writer Jonathan Buchanan and director Travis Greene prior to stumbling upon it by random luck here in 2024. And given my love of the horror genre, of course I opted to give this movie a fair chance.
Well, if you enjoy offbeat movies then you're in for a treat here, because writer Jonathan Buchanan definitely put together something that was refreshingly unique. And thus, "8 Found Dead" was not just another run-of-the-mill horror movie crammed with jump scares to get a reaction out of the audience. While the storyline was rather bizarre, I must say that I actually found it to be adequately entertaining.
While the movie wasn't crammed with an abundance of familiar actors and actresses, I will say that the cast ensemble was nicely cast, and they definitely had some good talents to participate in the movie. The only performers I was familiar with were William Gabriel Grier and Jenny Tran.
Visually then, and while the movie wasn't heavily relying on special effects, then the effects were fair and served their purpose well enough.
"8 Found Dead" is worth sitting down and checking out if you want something that deviates from the usual horror tropes.
My rating of director Travis Greene's 2022 movie "8 Found Dead" lands on a five out of ten stars.

This was quite entertaining, better than I thought it was going to be. The performances were good But the standout performance was the character Liz played by Roseanne limeres. Really looking forward to the prequel to understand why Liz and Richard were the way they were. My only gripe with the movie was that I can't find anywhere the music. The amazing main song wonder valley is unavailable to listen to despite many a search. It is sung by big Ralph and written by the director Travis Greene. Please release it on YouTube or Spotify. Give this film a go if you like situational survival horror. Is not a masterpiece but an enjoyable film nonetheless.

No pun intended - the movie starts with an Influencer theme. And then we get the first glimpse of the slasher it becomes later on - actually we do have a few time jumps ... and I don't feel the timeline makes much sense .. or rather the events and how they take place ... apart from each other. On the other hand, maybe there is a suggestion that there is more to the movie and its mythology.
That all said, you can make up excuses for anything if you want to. I also understand if people are annoyed - by the supposedly main (good) character and the bad guys of the movie. The movie almost make the bad guys way too romantic ... there almost seems to be a notion of them being "good".
Generally speaking I like when the bad guys have motivation - of sorts. Still there is a lot wrong (with the secret), the meeting and the couples in and of themselves. The ending suggest sequels and maybe even prequels ... I liked the beginning but was a bit taken aback by the rest ... still I went with a 6 instead of a 5 ... well another example of me being too kind you say? Well if you feel like that ...

8 ways this film was terrible
1 bad acting
2 bad story line
3 bad make up
4 so disjointed there was no flow
5 no history to why bad guys are bad guys
6 police small story was pointless
7 the link between characters was pretty much non existing
8 full time line so out of whack you'd swear it was meant to be different days.
Honestly this film was a waste of time when it could have been a decent cabin in the woods type of film (well desert) but the disjointed making of the film really put me off. I had no idea what time of day it was meant to be. The police presents was not needed and the fact that they were going through a divorce and the husband was a borderline alcoholic was unnecessary. The touch on drugs was unnecessary. The fact that the second couple female caught on about a expensive bottle of whisky was not brought to light. Such a messy badly execution of a movie.

And that is the guy who "played" the old creepy dude. He just was entirely not a good actor in any way. It seemed like he was hired as a favor to some financial backer's retired grandfather to get him out of the house so grandma and her book club could meet in peace.
It also doesn't help that every line written for him is just so smarmy and corny. Nothing he says sounds earned or true to character. There is also something entirely off about every non-expression he attempts. The old lady wasn't all that good either. It seems like they wanted a Lin Shaye-type but at least the second choice actress seemed seasoned and attempted actual acting. Her dialogue was just as cringe though.
And why on Earth is there both a Richard and a Ricky? Just rename out of them. It didn't help that the two non-old couples intentionally looked similar as well. I did like the cop couple. Most notably the red-headed one.
Needless to say, I also hate how it ended. The "franchise" hopefully ends here.

This movie was ok, are Airbnbs this much trouble? If so, count me out, the acting was fine, I fell in love with the old couple. The wife Liz was hilariois to me, lol. Her character was way off in a kooky type of way,, she seemed to enjoy her screen time, playing her role to a Tee. Barbarians the movie was about an airbnb as well, so was the new Netflix Film with Julia Roberts called Leave the world behind, same premise didferent scenario though. I would leave immediately if I showed up and someone was occupying the place I rented out. The characters in these types of movies makes all the wrong decisions.

One star for each found dead. But really solid movie. Did not feel like a normal horror movie, really well written. The intricate plot follows the four couples through the dramatic events. Tim and Rosanne bring their A game and then some. The practical locations were excellently chosen, there was a scene that was in a home of a dog painting. The dog looks like a very cute puppy. I wonder if it was a painting of someone's actual dog. Overall really liked the movie. Hope there is a part two to further the story and explain how some of the people got in that situation. I am also excited to see another story from the writer.

So when we watched this it had an imdb rating of 8.7 by 52 votes. We thought those are most likely by friends from the people who made it but we gave it a shot anyway.
And we were so right. Trailer looks good and the basic story is okay. The actors are actually quite good but the writing and directing is absolutely atrocious!!
Let's give some small spoilers here and that this actually the biggest issue the film has: the couple that occupies the house is EXTREMELY creepy from the very beginning. No sane person, not even your typical instagram queen with the obligatory 2.7 brain cells would be so incredibly stupid to stay!!! And it wasn't even just one couple that stayed. BOTH of them did!!!
This actually could have been an amazing little indy but instead you gave us this. Wish I could get my 7 bucks back.

I'm not rating this against Casablanca so don't @ me!
It's a low budget horror movie, I've seen tons of them you probably have also. The fact is this movie was way better then I expected it to be. It has that sly, sneaky, cleverness that allowed it to transcend my genre and budget expectations. That inspired bit of imagination in the script, the spark of scenery-chewing joy from the cast, surprisingly well done story beats; if you watch a lot of movies you know capturing any of those things is rare, and this one gets all three.
The title ends up feeling almost ironic as the filmmakers seem much less interested in the "found dead", then they are focused on the fun-loving living.
