My husband and I were in stitches the entire film. The humor was fresh, charming, sometimes sarcastic or subtle, and definitely international. Every stereo-type is under observation with great humor. To get back to the story, I found myself empathizing with the characters in so many areas, travelling abroad, being lost in translation, not being able to communicate, communicating in such simplicity for the sake of being understood, questioning a mate's every behavior just because they are so close, questioning the commitment factor we all need to fess up to eventually, this is the structure of this movie but done in a very natural, hilarious avenue. I particularly loved the frankness of every character and how every conversation paralleled real life and led us to understand the main characters' situation.

"It's so ugly when you speak French!" (Marion / Julie Delpy) 2 Days in Paris is a funny and surprising film written, directed, edited, and starred by the talented Julie Delpy. It has a taste of Woody Allen and a taste of European films. The film was nominated for a César award for Best Original Screenplay (Meilleur scénario original). The script is brilliant indeed. Julie's real parents play Marion's parents. The father is hilarious. The best: the lack of communication between different cultures, Albert Delpy's character and his passion for destroying cars that are bad parked (it would be so great to be able to do that!), the American Republican losers, Jack's paranoia for Marion's man-eater complex, the fairy, the music, and the scene where Marion shouts at the racist taxi driver and criticizes France. The worst: that the film is so short. I wish it would have lasted an hour longer.

I was waiting for the film to get better. I enjoyed listening to French.

Early on, I made the Woody Allen connection, thinking to myself, "This beautiful woman sees herself as a Woody-Allen-Nebbish-Type." Incredible! And, sex, sex, sex, everywhere there is sex, just like in real life. And also, just like in Woody Allen movies! Thought her take on seeing sex from the American (prudish) point of view and seeing it from the French (free and easy) point of view was interesting and funny. Weaving a smart plot and clever one-liners together was quite brilliant, too. (Ala Woody Allen!) I agree that Delpy did a great job on this movie and that it's something she and her family should be very proud of. She created a real work of art.

Written and directed by Julie Delpy, edited in part by Julie Delpy, music by Julie Delpy. Whatta vanity movie! I wish I had known before I plunked down my $7.50. There is little story, but heck, it's Paris... maybe you don't need much story. There is little to like about the two main characters. As the American boyfriend, co-star Goldberg's whining is reminiscent of Woody Allen's neurotic angst in his films. The most interesting characters in the movie may be Delpy's parents who play the main character's mother and father in the movie. However, if you're into fashion, Julie Delpy wears some great vintage dresses and looks great throughout. Sorry, Julie.

I thought this movie is gonna be a great one, but it wasn't good, not even mediocre, it was close to be very bad. Why? It's rated 7.2 or so? It pulls almost all clichés of europeans - as European myself I watch such a movie and shake my head upon a European feeding the clichés to the world. That's just bad writing. The couple is completely dysfunctional, they cannot speak to each other, and this goes on for 90 mins. The US guy is a cliché of a moron, unable to communicate other than English, it's not a problem with language, it's the inability to express oneself without words, the couple fails, the story fails, and so the movie. Fastfood, lot's of sex of french people, the lost group of republicans in Paris - this story does deliver no substance, nothing goes deep, close and touched me. It's a disappointment to see a movie with so little story, bad acting, good actors I would say and nothing but such a movie finally. Waste of time.

In this film, a relationship is tested during a 2 day stay in Paris where Marion revisits old relationships and Jack tries to endure the nostalgia and the questioning of their relationship develops. Marion seemed like an emotional flam, but she is cute in doing it. I can see Jack as the agitated sweet guy. There are some pretty funny scenes and some very good moments, the film seems fast paced but it really isn't. The film really reminded me of some films by Woody Allen in its humor and pacing and dialog. Maybe also because the director is also an actor. Film finishes with an open ended ending where questions go unanswered, but I think that is what Julie Delpy intended. It's a cute film imho.
