Good and unique scenario, but not unaccustomed to Indian acting. On the whole, 13B is interesting in parts, not in entirety. Also, as mentioned earlier, films of this genre, the world over, have a shorter duration [1.30 hours or 1.45 hours] and the approx. 2.28 hours' running time would test the patience of the viewer. At the box-office, with cricket matches on one hand and examinations on the other proving major oppositions, this scary movie would prove to be a scary proposition for its investors. The problem is, 13B takes its own sweet time to come to the point. Besides, you can't help notice the blemishes in the screenplay. What eventually comes across is a film that had the stamina to win the marathon, but which runs out of breath and starts huffing and puffing midway. If you have time, I recommend you to watch this movie. Just be patient!!!

'BS' i don't see the need to write anything more other than that. if u'v ever seen an episode of 'aahaht' or 'zee horror show' you'l understand why I'm calling this film BS. its not thing but a long, stupid, and at times boring and draggy episode of 'aahat' or 'zee horror' or 'shhhh koi hai'. only thing that was enjoyable was laughing at the movie, and at the comments of a few wise-cracks that happened to be in the theater. poor performances, television 'small-screen' direction. i still have to see a good, okay forget good, decent horror movie made in India. the things that are supposed to be scary in this movie are actually stupid and make you laugh. unless you get to see this movie at a dirt cheap price or for free, i wouldn't recommend it. or go with friends at a cheap theater, pass loud comments, have fun with it. but if you value your time and money then don't waste it here.

I remember watching this movie in some little parts on DD National when I was child, that one scene where R Madhvan told his friend to lock him up was still in my mind even after 10 years. Recently, i watched this movie with my family from start to end and everyone loves it. Story and Suspense in the movie was well written. Movies like this and Tumbbad are the one of the best indian horror movies ever made. Only downside of this movie is acting otherwise it's 10/10 movie.

Manohar (Madhavan) is a civil engineer and he lives in a joint family. They buy an expensive apartment 13B in a plush locality and start living in it. Spooky things start happening to Manohar. The lift doesn't work whenever he gets into it. He is unable to fix the portraits of Gods in pooja room. His family members are obsessed with viewing TV serials. He finds out that there is one TV serial called 'Sab Khairiyat' that is played at 1 am/pm everyday. And whatever happens in that TV serial comes true in the lives of his family members. Spooked by it, he starts investigating and realizes that some spirits are trying to a make a contact with him through TV.
Story of the film is interesting and this kind of horror flick was never made in India so far. The spirits communicate with the protagonist through electronic appliances about their presence and in turn they make him do the job for them. It is a pretty good story with an interesting premise.
Screenplay of the film is bad in the first half and interesting in the second half. Direction is adequate in parts. The director could not convert an interesting story into a gripping movie because of lack of emotional impact in the film. The movie is marred by repetitive scenes and uninteresting narration. The runtime of the film appears lengthy for a story like this.
Cinematography by PC Sreeram is exceptionally good. He experimented a lot with the photography in the film and it's superb. There is color grading to the film and they maintained sepia tone for most of the film. Background music is also good. But at times, it appears over the board. The two songs in this film are completely unwarranted for. Editing is adequate. Dialogues are natural.
ANALYSIS: First half of the film is little boring. The way story unfolds in the second half is good. But the flashback episode and the climax is not shot in a gripping manner. The plus points of the film are story, cinematography and Madhavan. The negative points are inconsistent screenplay and runtime. Though it has an interesting plot point, 13B fails due to lack of gripping narration.

There are a very few thrillers in Bollywood which have a good concept and also manage to utilize it well. 13B is one of them. One of the best Horror films I've seen in a long time in Bollywood, which not only had a good plot but was also very well written. It was something different than the usual Horror movies where there is a good attempt as far as background sound, cinematography & art direction are concerned but unfortunately they don't have a story to support all that. 13B sure is an exception. The acting was all brilliant, very convincing, and didn't have the cheezy touch to it. The story grips you till the end, it keeps getting tense and intriguing. One of the things lacking in the films was it's publicity which was very poor, the promotion song used was the very thing that was keeping me to watch the films, thankfully I got over it.

Horror genre over recent years has undergone a massive transformation. No longer it is a straight forward plot meant to scare the living daylights. These days one gets to witness the horror neatly blended with suspense to generate that extra twist and keep the audience in nail- biting mode. Hey, the genre manages to stay alive innit?
Clearly the director has taken inspiration from Poltergiest (ghost- directed by Steven Spielberg) and blends in Japanese horror flick formula's into it. Indeed the effort and the execution deserves a standing ovation and it wouldn't be exaggeration to state that 13B would put RGV to shame. Seriously, Phoonk seems to be child's play in comparison.
The mid-80's era is portrayed brilliantly. The settings are perfect and do take note of the Doordarshan's B&W intro. Nostalgia indeed!
Š Madhavan:: "BOLLYWOOD!" - this guy is screaming on the top of voice and can somebody at least take notice this time around? He is a consistent and a brilliant performer. 13B has two lead actors - Madhavan and the telly, rest everyone goes out of focus.
Š Deepak Dobriayl: Now this guy is to watch out for. Every time I see him he doesn't cease to surprise me. Be it Omkara, Shaurya, Dilli-6 or 13B - he manages to successfully pull-off a range of roles/ characters with nothing short of perfection.
Š Neetu Chandra & Sachin Khedekar:: Neatly compliments to the plot.
Š Poonam Dhillon:: She needed a better comeback vehicle. Her counterpart in the plot, Suhasini Mulay seemed elegant in comparison.
Š Dritiman Chatterjee:: Why was he there? Beats me!
Š Others do their parts as per the demands of the storyline.
What deserves a special mention, even though the telly leads the storyline by a few minutes, it still manages to create an edge-of-seat excitement. And yes, the shock value is immense. A few holes in the plot can be safely ignored.
Verdict:: Go for it!

This is a very good thriller and must watch one for cold blooded thriller fans. P.C.Sriram plays a vital role in the movie. His camera work is extraordinary frankly to say he deserve Oscar for Cinematography for this film.I can't believe it is Vikram K Kumar's First Film. His Directing style is very good.Maddy did a nice job and all other actors also did a good job.If you want to Feel the Fear means watch it in Theater don't watch in CD's. First of all thanks to the production team for giving us such a different thriller in Tamil.Little mistakes are there but i won't mention it because your work is really fantastic. A Must Watch Thriller Film with FAMILY.

I have not written a single IMDb review since I've been using this site for 9 years now. I was never motivated to, until now. This movie was so bad that I want whoever that was responsible for the making of the movie to refund me the 2 hours of my life I spent watching this garbage. Nothing is left to the imagination. Every single oh-my-god-that-was-freaky moment is obviously pointed out with a zoom in and "don don don" music. And some of the "freaky" moments were forced and laughable.

I finished this movie in 28 minutes. That was too long, I guess.
If you have the ability to totally suspend your disbelief in slightest common sense and ignore pathetic over/under acting, you may appreciate this effort. (What kind of an English is this? Showing off?)
I am too stumped to see how so much money can be poured in such a ludicrous project. (Once again, what kind of English is this?)
I guess that is the effect of watching a Civil Engineer use the hammer and a DOCTOR do the things that the doctor does in this movie(?).
I had hopes from this, considering the cast. They were dashed by the time the elder Bhabhi feeds breakfast to her kids. (EXACTLY One Nibble each from two sandwiches.)
