Ribisi is always good and he gives a great performance. I can;t say the rest of the cast does. The mother character is nothing too special and the lead is mediocre. The whole mob feel gets lost when Tommy Lee makes his appearance. It starts out with the cliché, voice over done by the lead character as all mob movies do. There is no real description of the rise of Joey(Ribisi's Character) to mob boss. It was a story based on a Philadelphia mafia, I was thinking Joey Merlino but I guess not because of the ending. All in all the movie was not that bad. I recommend "Gotti" or "Goodfellas" first though. No major players in this one but it will hold your attention. I wish there was more story of the kids growing up into mob guys but they skip that and head right into adulthood.

The least the maker of the "Philly mob" movie could have done was made some of it in Philly!!! This movie was a joke! Guess they are from California, they have no idea what the Philadelphia area is about! This was a living disgrace and the maker should be ashamed of himself! It is a shame that people will actually think that Pittsburgh is Philly. The two cities are nothing alike. Not that there is anything wrong with Pittsburgh, it's just not Philly. The best part of this movie was James Marsden, yummy. I just think that the people of Philadelphia should have spoken up, this was horrific. And to be compared to Goodfellas is the biggest joke that I have heard in a very long time!!!

I just rented the DVD and was looking forward to seeing it after the preview. It had to be the directing because it was almost good. Renfro was a victim of multiple personalities and Ribisi , although I wanted him to do well, was just over the top ridiculous. And yes the cameos by Kilmer and others were so short that it felt forced and just dropped in because they were available for a few hours. I should have known it was a stinker because there really wasn't any buzz about this film. I don't know what film these other people were watching but this was pretty bad . there were just to many things wrong with this film to name. Maybe a division of Wal-Mart started making movies. Its the only way to explain the decent cast and terrible outcome.I'm sure you will agree.

Basic story here is one of situational ethics. This is the kind of thing that the right-wing nut-jobs on radio and TV decry except when it is used to do things like fight drugs or find terrorists.
In this movie James Marsden plays a returning Desert Storm vet that got in trouble and is used by the government (Brian Dennehy & Leo Rossi) to rejoin his brother and friend (Giovanni Ribisi and Brad Renfro) to infiltrate the Philadelphia mob and bring down the drug lord. Torture and murder are government-approved for this purpose.
Marsden and Ribisi do excellent jobs here, and this is the best work I have seen by Piper Perabo. It even has a cameo by Tommy Lee, which would have been much better is it was Pamela instead.

10th and wolf is simply the most action-packed, fast-paced mafia movie that i have ever seen. To me it was like watching the departed meets reservoir dogs. The elements that this movie brought to the mafia genre were pretty original - as far as i can tell.
A mafia movie mixed with elements that are pertinent to Americans today - War in the middle east, family, betrayal, and not to mention incessant philandering, and the constant need for respect - I also loved the elements of the 3 brothers - American born, breed, and raised - trying to get their piece of the pie - when all the while - they are clearly the underdogs.
Maybe i loved this movie because i'm an action junkie, and the gangster ass scenes just don't stop coming, the movie moves along like an avalanche.
But it may have just been the camaraderie between the 3 brothers who were ingenious in their acting roles, the fact that I never had a brother may have something to do with that.
this movie is worth giving a chance.. don't believe those elitist critic pricks.. or the people bitchen that it doesn't look like the real 10th and wolf.. who cares.. if u wanna see your old neighborhood go back and take pictures.. the movie could take place in any city in the country and still be great

10th and Wolf is a movie about a bunch of punks born into the Italian mafia. Some good acting from experienced cast helped a tired old plot keep your attention for the length of the movie. It goes like this, punk gets put in prison, bad cops get punk out of prison to infiltrate the mob and turn in his fellow mobsters, punk turns in the bad guys and makes himself look like the good guy. Frankly, it wouldn't hurt to make it open season on all mobsters and their families. The general public could rid society of the mobster blight rather handily. Movies that glamorize the disease of the gangster are doing real law abiding people a great disservice. But other than that, it wasn't a bad movie.

This is a solid movie! The critics and detractors just don't get it. The movie never sets out to be anything different than what it is--a story about family, betrayal and the desperation we all have to be loved and to fit in. If open and willing to read into the sub-text, 10th & Wolf reaches much deeper than other 'so-called' gangster pictures. Although laced with parallels to other pictures, 10th & Wolf stands on its own as it is based on actual events and characters and should be judged for its strong story and amazing actor performances. "This is not necessarily that."
I've heard people 'in the know' say, Giovanni is hauntingly similar to the real-life character he portrays. You make the call, but I think it is a film definitely worth seeing.

While living in Pittsburgh when 10th and Wolf was being filmed, I eagerly awaited its release, but never heard anything about it. After recently renting it, I loved the film. I feel that it's equivocal to a modern day Goodfellas; so why haven't I heard anything about this movie? Why haven't more people seen it, I wonder? The acting is top-notch, with great cinematography as well. I think this has been James Marsden's best work to date, and his character is very well developed throughout the plot. It just seems like a shame that there are 40 copies of Failure to Launch, but only two copies of Tenth and Wolf at my local Blockbuster.

I saw this film a couple weeks ago at the Pittsburgh premiere. I had been waiting to see this movie ever since Sept. 04 when I was cast as an extra for the strip club scene. Luckily, I made the final cut of the film for a couple seconds. Anyway, the film itself is a unique mob tale that utilizes the acting talents of James Marsden, Giovanni Ribisi, and Brad Renfro. I was pleased with James Marsden's performance because it showcased his ability to carry a leading role in a movie instead of playing supporting characters like Cyclops in the X-Men movies or Lois Lane's husband in Superman Returns. Giovanni Ribisi's performance was commendable as well. Even though this was a decent mafia movie, it doesn't hold a candle to The Godfather Parts 1 & 2 or Goodfellas. There were a few problems with the film such as the unnecessary cameos of Val Kilmer and Tommy Lee. Also, I felt Lesley Ann Warren's performance as Aunt Tina was a little annoying and over-the-top. Lastly, my biggest complaint was that the story is supposed to occur in Philly, but in the background of one scene you can see a Budweiser billboard with the Pittsburgh Steelers logo on it, which is the absolute last thing you would ever find in Philadelphia. Despite these minor problems, the film is a well-made piece of cinema that shows the great acting abilities of the up-in-coming stars of Hollywood. The story is compelling as it weaves the loyalty of family and friendship with the seductiveness and deception of the crime world. This movie is definitely worth seeing.
